New Aera Models

May 11, 2023

Announced today, Aera has taken the wraps off of the next iterations of their core models, the D-1 Diver and the P-1 Pilot. Where the original models both featured black dials, these new additions offer an alternative colorway for both models, with the D-1 "Ocean Diver" getting a deep blue dial with a matching bezel and the P-1 "Moon Pilot" rocking a grey dial inspired by the color of the moon's surface.? Sizing for both remains the same (42mm wide for the D-1 and 43mm wide for the P-1), and these new models retain the 904L steel construction featured by the brand's first releases.? What has changed is that Aera is using Globolight lume for the markers and dial indexes (which looks very bright in the included lume shots) and they have outfitted these new models with an upgraded movement, an Elabore grade Sellita SW200-1. The movement is executed without a phantom date position and Aera has the movement adjusted to run between -7 and +20 seconds a day (which is more accurate than a base SW200-1).? As was the case with Aera's previous models, both the D-1 Ocean Diver and the P-1 Moon Pilot are made in editions of 300 pieces and pricing is $1,600 for the D-1 and $1,500 for the P-1.? What We Think I covered Aera's initial two models when they launched back in early 2022 and enjoyed both watches, especially the black-dialed D-1 Diver. They are big but comfortable, wilfully modern, and have a design language that feels both fresh and nicely massaged into the well-known footholds of sports watches designed for aviation and diving.? And, while these new models don't exactly break new ground, I think both of the color choices look great and make sense for the model in question. I remain more personally interested in the D-1 and, judging by the photos, would likely go for the blue-dialed Ocean Diver, which I think looks great and adds some warmth to the D-1 equation.? Packing an upgraded movement and even better lume C check out the three-dimensional look of those Globolite markers C these new models from Aera do raise the price from that of the original launch editions ($1,300 for the P-1 and $1,400 for the D-1).? Still a very young brand, it makes sense that Aera would expand into new colors and further refine elements like their movements and price point. With the release of the new D-1 Ocean Diver and P-1 Moon Pilot, Aera continues to impress and I remain keen to see how the brand will grow and continue to iterate upon these models and more.?
