Step aside Rolex, there's a new Kermit in town. While previous watches, like a certain "Kermit" Submariner, got their nicknames from collectors, Oris is doing it the official way by working with Disney's The Muppets for a new ProPilot X Calibre 400 "Kermit Edition." It has all the Oris touches you know and love, plus a bright green dial and a frog inside the date window.? "Kermit Day" on the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition date wheel. Titanium case, titanium bracelet, in-house movement C yada yada yada C that's all great, but the star of the show is the cultural icon hanging out at six o'clock. That's right, we've got Kermit the Frog here, popping up once a month in place of the numeral "1" to make the first of the month. So now, for CHF 4,400, you too can start every month with a smile.? What We Think While Oris could have phoned in this collaboration, instead they jumped in whole hog. No, sorry Miss Piggy, that wasn't a reference to you C nevermind, I'm sorry, forget I said it.? What's seriously great here is that Oris didn't just put Kermit inside some cheapo kids' watch. He's rocking with the mighty Calibre 400, in a 39mm case, with a five-day power reserve. All very grown-up. That said, Oris is clearly treating the watch itself with a ton of levity. It's meant to be fun, and it really is. As a part of the release, Oris teamed up with The Muppets team to write a whole new song and produce a video of Kermit singing and playing the banjo while talking about "taking time for me" in the date window of the ProPilot X. The hardened watch writer in me hates to admit how much watching the video made me smile.? Oris says the first goal of their watches is to bring joy, and how can you not feel happy with Kermit grinning at you through the date window? One note for anyone considering owning this piece: It is VERY green. Oris paid attention to getting the green dial appropriately Kermit-y, a shade unmistakable from any other. I would guess that isn't easy to wear this color green every day, but then again Kermit does it and he seems just fine.?
