The Audemars Piguet Ladies' Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon

I'm excited to say that this year Audemars Piguet has launched its very first ladies' Royal Oak Concept watch. Since its introduction in 2002, the Royal Oak Concept watches have featured innovative technologies such as the Supersonnerie, the Laptimer Michael Schumacher, and the Acoustic Research. This year, the Concept watch for men is the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT and for women it is the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon. The Ladies' Concept watch features a 38.5mm white gold case set with one of two types of diamonds C baguette or brilliant-cut C along the shaped lugs and bezel (over 460 diamonds in total). The movement itself is visible through the front or the case as well as the back and features white lacquer and satin-brushed bridges. Why This Watch Matters Over the past few years Audemars Piguet has doubled down on its female-focused releases (see Frosted Gold and Diamond Outrage) and this year is no different. Launching their first-ever ladies' Concept watch is a big step for the manufacture because it shows that they are trying to create innovative and technologically interesting watches for women and not just ones with diamonds and spikes. But this is nothing new for Audemars Piguet as they have always been at the forefront of women's watches. This is also the very first flying tourbillon developed by the manufacture, and for them to put it in a women's watch first is pretty cool.? Initial Thoughts Would I wear this watch? No. Do I love this watch? Yes. In case you haven't noticed, women are having a moment (or as I like to say, "Women are so hot right now."). The female empowerment movement is not lost on big name brands in all industries, and the watch industry (after years of making overpriced quartz diamond bracelets) is no different. I think it screams volumes that Audemars Piguet continues to push the boundaries when it comes to women's watches and are clearly focusing on this demographic for the future (as they should). This Royal Oak Concept watch is only the beginning. While it is expensive, covered in diamonds, and probably really difficult to wear (stay tuned for a hands-on) it can only trickle down into other collections and price points.?
