Introducing: The Bremont Supersonic (Live Pics & Pricing)
October 25, 2018
Planes just don't seem to get the same love as cars (other than from those strange dudes who stand just outside airport fences with their telescopic lenses... no doubt that's what they would say about us and our watches). But few will argue with the fact that Concorde was a beauty. That she flew faster than a rifle bullet and in doing so halved the time it took to cross the Atlantic only added to the allure. In total, over 2.5 million British Airways passengers experienced flying at the dizzying height of eleven miles at twice the speed of sound (though I unfortunately wasn't one of them), and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the aircraft, Bremont has launched its eighth historical limited edition timepiece, the Bremont Supersonic. A subdued time-only watch for everyday wear, it incorporates parts of the Concorde itself. In partnership with British Airways, metal from the G-BOAB Concorde, known as Alpha Bravo, was donated to Bremont to incorporate into these 500 limited edition watches. The donor aircraft was registered in 1974, and was the third Concorde to join the British Airways fleet. Aluminum taken from the plane has been machined into a decorated ring, visible through the case back. This ring will also feature a description of the aircrafts number and registration, years of active service, number of supersonic flights, as well as her top speed.? Initial Thoughts I've long been a fan of Bremont. Nick and Giles English are humble leaders who have a great deal of fun in their work, which I deeply admire. This steel Supersonic I had the chance to see earlier on in the week is undoubtably a handsome watch. The sharp power reserve at 12 o'clock and sub-seconds at six combine to offer a super balanced dial. Though criticism could be leveled at the Supersonic for staying within its comfort zone design-wise, it holds the traditional Bremont DNA well. The play on the sunburst silver dial in light is striking, while the slightly raised, applied indices really pop. The modified caliber BE-11M represents the first manual wind movement with eight days of power from Bremont (and iv got to say winds incredibly smoothly).?If you flew Concorde C or even better, Alpha Bravo C this guy could be for you. ?
