Introducing: Dennison Leans Into Peak 70s Glam and Design With New ALD Dual Time

September 03, 2025

Dual-time watches with two pairs of hour and minute hands on a stone dial are pure jet-set glamourand nostalgia doesn't get much better. If that's a trip you want to take, the new Dennison ALD Dual Time will soon be ready for boarding. It's a new watch model that follows up the revival brand's eye-catching and value-priced ALD (named for the Anglo-American original company founder, Aaron Lufkin Dennison). Rich Fordon wrote smartly and with authority about the historic brand's most recent return last year. The original ALD earned plenty of interest and praise, with designer bonafides coming from no less than Emmanuel Gueit (who designed the original AP Royal Oak Offshore, among others), which helped the budget-priced brand gain serious notice among enthusiasts and many top-notch collectors alike. The original ALD with the new ALD Dual-Time. Now Dennison is leaning in hard to its '70s chic and form-first aesthetic with the ALD Dual Time. The new watch doubles down, literally, on the brand's recent offerings. The slightly larger rectangular case, in stainless steel or gold PVD, is 35.6 millimeters across, about 2 millimeters wider, with the same 37 millimeters in vertical length. That provides ample space to showcase the stone dials on display and enough room for two separate handsets, allowing the user to track and read two different time zones.? Let's be clear, Piaget and a few other jewelry-adjacent brands produced numerous watches that looked a lot like this in the 1970s. Gueit outwardly acknowledges the influence and inspiration. After all, his father, Jean-Claude Gueit, was a designer at Piaget during the period, and he recalls watching him sketch these designs. "Those images stayed with me they evoke an era when watchmaking embodied travel and freedom as much as luxury and elegance,'' he says. Each ALD Dual Time is powered by dual Swiss quartz Ronda movements, operated by a pair of crowns, one on each side of the case. That keeps the case thickness at an extremely wearable 6.1 millimeters. The stone dials remain differentiators, and there are a couple of different configurations. The dual stone options feature tiger eye and black marble, or bloodstone and lapis, for each handset. In contrast, the 'monolithic' options utilize single stone dials in malachite, lapis lazuli, and aventurine, with sunray-finished matching subdials at 3 o'clock to enhance readability. The two sets of hands on each watch match the case color in steel or gold PVD. The brand remains aggressive in staying accessibly priced, with the ALD Dual Time costing CHF 725 or around $890 before taxes, duties, and fees. What We Think This is an achingly cool and logical follow-up for Dennison to the first ALD, which revives and celebrates a glitzy, if not kitschy, era in dual-time watches. The stone dials continue to ooze fashionable sophistication while the case shape (Dennison was originally a casemaker after all) feels fresh and familiar at the same time. It even boasts 30 meters of water resistance, so you don't necessarily have to leave it pool or beachside if you're taking a dip while on holiday. Even the calfskin strap on these new ones looks like an upgrade from the original, and we reckon these can seat you comfortably among the jet set without the first-class ticket price.
