Doplr (pronounced DOPP-ler) is a new small brand started by a team of French doctors with the intention of making a watch that can aid in reading both a patients pulse and his or her respiration rate. A two-ended sweep hand is always near the starting point of both the pulse and respirations scale (asthmometer), so a doctor can simply find a patients pulse and observe the sweep hand for 15 heartbeats or five breaths and read off the rate.The fact that the brand was started by a team of French physicians gives this watch credibility and their commitment of a percentage of sales to a worthy charitable medical cause is admirable. Initial Thoughts Aside from its dual-scale raison dtre, the Doplr is also designed to stand up to the rough use often found in field hospitals or triage situations, where water, blood, and other body fluids are common. The logo is a clever use of the Asklepios snake symbol of medicine coiled in the shape of infinity and the rest of the dial is fittingly devoid of clutter. The long sweep hand in red is a striking feature and combined with the outer dial scales, has an instrument vibe that invites regular use.
