Introducing: The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Perpetual Calendar
January 11, 2019
In a couple of days, we'll be heading to Geneva for the SIHH, but already many of the new watches are starting to hit our inboxes. Their press releases, that is. Not actual watches.? Here we have a perpetual-calendar version of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato presented in stainless steel. All the tell-tale elements of the Laureato are there C the integrated bracelet, the octogonal bezel, and the clous de Paris dial. This watch, however, adds GP's perpetual calendar movement to the equation.? Initial Thoughts The display itself eschews the more commonly seen symmetrical layouts typically reserved for this type of complication in favor of one that seems a bit more edgy and modern, and I think it works particularly well with the Laureato design. The day of the week is displayed in a sundial at nine o'clock, the date is between 1 and 2, and the leap-year display is nestled right above a window that opens onto a disk to display the months. ? The Laureato has long been seen by collectors as Girard-Perregaux's answer to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, to the Patek Philippe Nautilus, and to Vacheron Constantin's Overseas, all of which currently offer perpetual calendar models. Now we can add Girard-Perregaux's Laureato to that list.
