Introducing: The H. Mosser Swiss Alp Watch Concept Cosmic Green
January 14, 2018
It's hard to believe that it was two years ago that H. Moser first introduced the Swiss Alp watch, which at the time we called a "not-so-subtle jab at the Apple Watch." Since then, the brand has continued to iterate on the basic rectangular form with wire lugs, offering different dial, metal, and strap combinations for different looks. This latest version is white gold and uses on of Moser's outstanding fum dials with no markers of any kind to disrupt the rich Cosmic Green ground (no markers is what makes it a "concept" in Moser parlance). The Evolution Of The Swiss Alp Watch There have been more than half a dozen different Swiss Alp Watch iterations over the two years since its introduction at SIHH 2016. My favorite, without question, is the Swiss Alp Zzzz, which has a glossy black dial reminiscent of a turned off digital display.Check out our hands-on look at that model here. Why This Watch Matters When the Swiss Alp Watch first came out, a lot of people thought it was nothing more than a provocative joke. Similar to this year's Swiss Icons watch or last year's so-called Cheese Watch. However, the rectangular watch seems to be quite popular with Moser's collectors, and the brand continues to create new iterations every few months. Granted, these are all limited editions C usually of 20 or so pieces C so we're still not talking about customers purchasing these by the hundreds. The Concept versions, with their index-free dials, are definitely the handsomest of the bunch, and I'm sure there will be 20 people who immediately want to snatch up this iteration too. Initial Thoughts For me, the Swiss Alp Watch is something funny and charming on paper, but not something I particularly want on my wrist. For a rectangular watch, it's rather large (even bigger than the larger of the two Apple Watch sizes, and much heftier in precious metal), however that's mostly a matter of personal comfort. It's been said before, but it's worth repeating: Moser's fum dials are some of the most beautiful being made today and I'm sure this Cosmic Green variant will be no exception. I could stare at these things for hours. The Basics Brand: H.
