If you somehow managed to miss it, we hosted the HODINKEE 10th Anniversary Weekend (H10 for short) in New York City this weekend. There were a number of amazing panels and events, which you can stream right here, including an incredible episode of HODINKEE Radio recorded in front of a live audience. Our guest? The inimitable Alton Brown.Alton is a tough man to categorize. He's a TV food personality known for shows like Good Eats and Iron Chef America, a chef, a pilot, an actor, a musician, and, of course, a watch collector, amongst other things. Not to fanboy too much, but I basically learned to cook by watching late night Food Network marathons of Good Eats in the days before at-will binge watching, and to say I was excited for our conversation would be quite an understatement. Whether it's food, watches, or, well, anything else really, Alton believes that it's ultimately the emotional value that makes something special, but he's also a big nerd at heart who wants to understand how and why things work the way they do. We talked about what makes vintage tool watches irresistible, an unconventional way to cook a spatchcocked game hen, and the weird 70s Patek Philippe that's become his latest obsession. There were also questions from the audience that you won't want to miss at the end of the show. This is one of the most straight up fun episodes of HODINKEE Radio yet.We hope you enjoy Episode 23 of HODINKEE Radio. Check out the show notes below and let us know what you think in the comments. Wrist Check You might have expected Alton to show up to H10 wearing something hard-hitting. His incredible Bakelite bezel GMT-Master, his no-crown-guards Submariner, or maybe his father's Omega Chronostop, for example. But no. Alton arrived rocking a Timex Marlin Automatic with a beautiful burgundy dial, a throwback to his very first wristwatch, a Timex Marlin given to his as a gift by his father when he was only four years old. He had to pass a time-telling test to earn it and you can hear the full story in his episode of Talking Watches. If you ask me, this is the perfect H10 watch.
