A lot of people think they know who Matt Hranek is, but very few people can actually pin him down. If you follow his Instagram account, Matt seems to be everywhere at once. Hes in LA hanging out at the Tower Bar; hes in Bordeaux grilling up steaks for friends; hes in New York shooting photographs and working on his next book. The crazy part though is that he really is doing all of these things, racking up those frequent flyer miles and rarely taking a break from his jet-set, media-making lifestyle. Most recently Matt served as the men's style editor at Cond Nast Traveler and he just launched his very own magazine, WM Brown. Like I said: he's a busy guy.Ive known Matt for a long time C we actually used to be neighbors in Brooklyn C but it was a rare treat to sit down with him and HODINKEE senior writer James Stacey to set the record straight about who he is, where he comes from, and why he does what he does. Matts a guy who can really tell a story, whether that's through photography, unfiltered blog posts, or a fully composed magazine feature, so letting him tell his own story was definitely the best way to go here. I just had to ask questions and get out of the way.Matt being Matt, he of course whipped out a bottle of pre-mixed Negronis the moment he arrived to the studio. Completing the experience was a fresh orange cut into the perfect cocktail garnishes with the pocket knife floating around at the bottom of his bag. A few handfuls of ice, some mismatched coffee mugs, and we were off to the races. If you hear cubes clinking as we talk C well, now you know why.?We hope you enjoy Episode 32 of HODINKEE Radio. Check out the show notes below and let us know what you think in the comments. Wrist Check While Matt is certainly a person who likes nice things, he's none to precious about any of them. This Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date is a perfect embodiment of that attitude too. Calling this watch "tropical" doesn't quite do it justice C the dial, which was once presumably black, has faded to a coppery sunburst pattern that's nearly white in the center by the hands. I've never seen another example quite like it and lately it's been Matt's go-to watch for traveling around the globe.
