Today we take it totally for granted that the watch landscape is populated by a healthy crop of micro-brands in addition to the big traditional players. But when Bradley Price started Autodromo back in 2011, this was very much not the case. American enthusiasts weren't dreaming up their own watches, quitting their day jobs, and launching collections online to great fanfare. A lot has changed since then, but Autodromo is still around and stronger than ever.?I've known Bradley since the early days of Autodromo and he was even one of the earliest HODINKEE collaborators (we made these limited edition sunglasses in 2013). Growing a watch brand is no easy task, and watching Bradley take Autodromo from being a maker of a handful of automotive gaugeCinspired quartz watches to a true brand with watches (quartz, automatic, and hybrid), accessories, and more has been extremely interesting and fun. It's sort of a microcosm for what's been happening on the enthusiast side of the industry more generally and in this episode we get into all of that and more. We talk about the glory days of the Salon QP show in London, the joys of doing things the old-fashioned way, and why, even as someone who knows very little about cars, I still find myself drawn to Autodromo's watches.Plus, there's plenty of nerding out about vintage cars from Bradley and our own Cole Pennington while I listen in and try to keep up. These guys really know their stuff! We hope you enjoy Episode 46 of HODINKEE Radio. Check out the show notes below and let us know what you think in the comments. Wrist Check We recorded this episode just two days after Autodromo launched its latest watch, the Group B Series 2 Corsica Blue, and Bradley fittingly showed up with one on his wrist. The Series 2 version of the Group B includes a distinctive bracelet that looks integrated but can actually detach so that you can pair the watch with any standard two-piece strap (the original Group B had fixed lugs and could only take single-piece straps). Here the steel-and-titanium watch is paired with a bright blue dial with vivid pink accents. The whole thing has a very Miami Vice vibe, but in the best way possible. Bradley chose to shoot all the marketing photos for this new model in a white Lamborghini Countach Turbo with a matching white leather interior, which is an absolutely perfect fit.
