Back in September, we held the inaugural HODINKEE Radio Watch Collection Fantasy Draft. Ben, Cara, Jack, and I sat down and each had to put together a six-watch collection that included modern sport watches, vintage dress watches, holy grail pieces, and everything in between. It generated some pretty interesting results, and it seemed like all of you really enjoyed listening and casting your votes for which collection ruled them all. So, we're doing it again! This time around, we've got three new editors joining me in the room C?Cole, James, and Jon C?and we've changed our focus a bit. Instead of swinging for the fences, we're looking to slightly more accessible watches. Each editor was given $10,000 in HODINKEE Bucks to purchase a set of five watches. Each editor had the option to load up with one huge piece and four minor players or try to make it more even, and both vintage and modern watches were available in all rounds. There were a few no-brainer picks, as well as a ton of surprises and plenty of discussion of watch-collecting strategy, so you'll definitely want to give this one a listen. The Collections Just like with our last fantasy draft, we decided to give this one a bit of structure. Each collection must contain five watches total, and those five watches must include one beater/everyday watch, one proper dress watch, and one complication of some kind (the watch must display something other than hours, minutes, seconds, and the date). The other two spots are totally open, so each collector can choose what he thinks best rounds out the collection. Also, just like last time, only one person could pick each watch or watch archetype, so there's still that competitive edge. With those rules in mind, here are the four collections we drafted: Jon Everyday/Beater Watch: Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Dress Watch: Vintage IWC Caliber 89 In Gold Complication: Minerva Cal. 13-20 Chronograph In Steel Flex: Swatch Sistem51 Flex: Casio G-Shock James Everyday/Beater Watch: Rolex Explorer Ref. 14270 Dress Watch: Vintage Omega Seamaster DeVille Complication: Omega Seamaster Professional Ref. 2234 Flex: Halios Seaforth Flex: Garmin Fenix 6 Stephen Everyday/Beater Watch: Tudor Black Bay 36 Dress Watch: Cartier Santos-Dumont In Steel Complication: Apple Watch Series 5 Edition Titanium 40mm Flex: Vintage Grand Seiko 56GS Flex: Swatch Skin Classic Cole Everyday/Beater Watch: Sinn 556 Dress Watch: Vintage Universal Genve Polerouter Complication: Vintage Omega Flightmaster Ref. 145.036 Flex: Vintage Seiko Ref. 6105 "Willard" Flex: Vintage Rolex Air-King Ref. 5500 You Pick The Winner Just like last time, you all get to pick the winner of the HODINKEE Radio Budget Watch Collection Fantasy Draft.
