There are only few dates on the horological calendar that qualify as "can't-miss" events, and the annual Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genve (GPHG) is definitely one of them. The yearly awards ceremony takes place in downtown Geneva and is essentially the Oscars of watchmaking, handing out category specific prizes to watches and the brands that create them. It's one of the few times that most of the watch world gathers in one place for a joint event (though there are a few notable brands who sit this one out) and it's a great time to take the temperature of the industry, where it's been, and where it's going. We've covered the changes to the GPHG itself and the watches that made the finals ballot, but we thought it would be fun to sit down a few days ahead of the ceremony itself to cast our own hypothetical votes. I sat down with Cara, Jon, and Ben last week to go over what the GPHG is, why it matters, and what watches we think should take home the top prizes this year. There are a few predictable results, a few surprises, and a handful of respectful disagreements.
