Subscribe to the show: (Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, TuneIn). Already heard it once or twice? Please leave a short review, and tell us which guests we should have on! Its draft day! No, Im not talking about the NFL (that happened last week) or the MLB (still got a few months until that mess). Today were bringing you the Hodinkee Radio Independent Watchmaking Fantasy Draft, a celebration of todays most creative timekeepers. If youre looking for watches you can buy at any multi-brand retailer, look elsewhere C but if you want the deep cuts, the artisanal, and the truly special, weve got you covered.Cole, Danny, Jon, and I decided to work on a definition of independent thats faithful to the spirit, not just the letter, of the law. The likes of Rolex, Tudor, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and others might technically be independently owned (not part of a global conglomerate like LVMH or Richemont), but their watches arent eligible for this draft. The big boys are on the bench this week, with all the playing time going to the unsung heroes and connoisseurs darlings. Each of us picked a sport watch, a dress watch, a complication (something more than just time and date), and a budget pick (retail price under $2,000). The resulting collections are pretty diverse; youre likely to find both well-known names and fresh faces in each.As always, you get to pick the winner of the draft. Below youll find the four collections and a poll allowing you to cast your ballot. Voting is open through Friday, May 28, at 11:59 PM ET, and well crown the winner, debrief on the draft, and offer some additional thoughts on independent watchmaking in a future episode.May the best collection win!If you have other thoughts beyond your vote, please let us know in the comments below.
