Introducing: Ice Blue, Pastel Pink, and Dark Green: Citizen's New 37mm Tsuyosa Trio

February 21, 2025

Citizen's Tsuyosa collection launched in 2023 and seemed to answer the market demand for colorful dialed integrated steel sports watches at an affordable price point. Released in five colors, with a 40mm case, and at $450, it was a compelling entry into the space. I've seen quite a few of them in the wild, many on the wrists of folks just starting to dive down the rabbit hole of mechanical watches. Since then, Citizen has pushed out a few more dial colors and a collection of Tsuyosas with guilloche-style dials and small seconds sans date window. These have all remained in the 40mm case size, but today, Citizen changed all that with three new Tsuyosa models in 37mm. From a high level, it's pretty self-explanatory. The case is 37mm in diameter with a thickness of 11.5mm. Like the original 40mm versions, a cyclops on the sapphire crystal sits above the date window at three o'clock. Underneath the hood is the in-house self-winding Citizen Cal. 8210, with hacking and a power reserve of 42 hours. An exhibition caseback puts the industrially finished caliber on display. The only dial color that remains unchanged is the 'Ice Blue' variant, and a new 'Pastel Pink' color is no doubt targeting a broader demographic in the smaller case size. While the original 40mm version had a green-dialed model, the brand says this 'Dark Green' colorway is slightly different. The three new 37mm Tsuyosa models are available now and retail at $450. What We Think Offering the Tsuyosa in this new smaller, 37mm case size is just a fitting evolution for the product line. It's also a clever unisex play for a smaller sports watch and is a more elegant, perhaps dressier option at this price point, certainly more so than, say, a Seiko 5. While it's certainly not a dress watch, I've seen it on wrists paired with a suit, and it feels quite at home. One small change from the larger variants is, no doubt, a byproduct of the same-sized movement fitted in a smaller casethe crown at four o'clock extends out by a noticeable bit. On the 40mm versions, the case shrouds a portion of it, with many complaining that it was a bit of a challenge to wind. With the downsized case, hopefully, the crown will no longer represent an issue here. If there's one thing that feels missing from the launch, it's more interesting colorways. Light blue, light pink, and green seem like awfully safe colorways for this line, and the yellow dial of the 40mm version was certainly my favorite of the bunch. Maybe this launch is for Citizen to test the waters of the actual demand for a 37mm Tsuyosa (remember, outside of our watch nerd bubble, the larger sports watches actually sell better). I'm certainly rooting for the collection to succeed.
