Patek Philippe is kicking off Watches & Wonders by announcing a new version of the fan-favorite Aquanaut Travel Time, this time in white gold. With a blue-grey dial and matching strap, it might not be the khaki-green version that people hoped for, but it's a fun variation for one of the longest-running Patek references in the current catalog.? The new 5164G has a 40.8mm by 10.2mm case, with the Caliber 26?330 S C FUS movement that's in the 5164R and the old (sadly discontinued) 5164A stainless steel model, which you can see through the exhibition caseback. The Opaline blue-gray, embossed Aquanaut pattern dial is the same color as the 5980G that was released today, but in this case you get the fantastic rubber strap in a matching blue, with deployant clasp. The price is the same as the 5164R, which in U.S. dollars translates to today's hyper-specific price of $63,043.? What We Think The King was dead, long live the King. My friends know that the ref. 5164A (the steel version of the Aquanaut Travel Time) was one of my favorite watches of all time. The design for tracking a second time zone is one of the most elegant solutions on the market, and that's coming from a massive fan of the Rolex GMT-Master II.? While I was certain that Patek would eventually fill the gap with something, I figured we'd have to wait until next year. I also hoped against all hope that the 5164 wouldn't get the 5811 treatment and end up in a white gold version. While I'm still extremely excited to see it in person this week at Watches & Wonders, a part of me thinks that some sporty watches should remain in materials that suit their intended sporty lifestyle. While it's no dive watch, the Aquanaut Travel Time is the ultimate "casual flex" travel watch, one that you should be able to enjoy but not worry too much about. In white gold, it's also about $20,000 more than the stainless steel model was. But who am I kidding C logic be damned, I'm a fan.
