Introducing: The New Ressence Type 3 EE In 'Eucalyptus' Green

If you know wild, creative watchmaking, then you certainly know Ressence. With its crown-free, unique distortion-busting edge-to-edge sapphire crystal and oil-filled design that won "Horological Revelation" prize at GPHG in 2013, the Type 3 couldn't be mistaken for anything else. But the Type 3 was limited to a black dial with multi-colored indices until now. Introducing the new Type 3 EE in a green "eucalyptus" dial. The watch still features the multi-rotating titanium disc display with hours on an inner dial, the minutes pointing on an outside track, the day of the month, day of the week, and oil temperature (which is important, as oil changes density with temperature). There's also green Super-Luminova on the dial to make it legible at night. And legibility is key, since that's the whole point of the oil display C it offsets distortions to make the watch legible at more angles.? The titanium case measures 44mm by 15mm and comes with a 22mm strap with titanium buckle. The water resistance is listed as "splash proof" at 1 atmosphere, so just be very careful on a humid or rainy day. If you're interested, the watch will run CHF 38,200 and be available starting in October. What We Think Over at Hodinkee, we've got a lot of fans of Ressence. That's why we've done a few collaborations with the brand. But Ressence certainly makes great releases without anyone else's input and this new release is plenty proof of that. There have been a lot of releases this week so I'll keep it short. This is just a new color variation on an existing watch so the color seems worth the most commentary. This nice soft green color is striking and since green is my favorite color, I feel like I would have strong opinions if they got it wrong. But with such an avant garde design (even one now in its 10th year) you're either a Ressence person or you're not. I'm just afraid that my uncoordinated self couldn't be trusted not to bust this big, beautiful display on a door knob eventually, so I think I'll continue leaving Ressence to the more coordinated fans in the crowd.
