Review of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Titanium Tourbillon
April 10, 2024
Vacheron Constantin has introduced a new model today that I frankly assumed already existed, a new blue-dialed Overseas Tourbillon with a grade 5 titanium case and bracelet. The watch, powered by the Caliber 2160 movement, joins the titanium Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton released in 2022, rounding out the lineup of options for the Maison. Part of why the watch feels like it already existed is because the translucent blue-lacquered, sunburst satin-finished base dial with velvet-finished flange is such a classic Vacheron Overseas design. It's also easy to imagine that if a brand is announcing a skeletonized watch (with all the difficult R&D, design, and craftsmanship), it already has a non-skeletonized version in the lineup. Heck, I even did one of my first Hands-On stories on the skeleton back in 2022. I apparently wasn't paying enough attention. The rest of the watch is much the same as before, with identical measurements at 42.5mm by 10.39mm thick in the grade 5 titanium case, applied numerals with lume that matches the hands, and a small seconds display shown by a colored screw on the tourbillon. As a part Vacheron's move to boutique exclusivity, you'll have to head to a brand boutique to get your name on the list for this watch and be ready to pay the list price. What We Think For all my commentary so far about how this seems like a watch I was positive already existed, it isn't any worse for not being surprising. In fact, as much as I liked the original skeleton version and C surprisingly C thought it was pretty legible, which is a feat for any skeleton, this watch is definitely an improvement for every day wear if you're in the market for a daily driver at the price. The quick-change strap system on the Overseas is the slickest option on the market, in my experience. You could easily swap this watch from strap to bracelet and back, enjoy the watch on rubber in the warm weather, and really not have to think about it twice on your wrist. While the peripheral rotor seemed like an essential inclusion on the skeletonized version (to not conflict with enjoying the handwork on the movement) in the provided images here, it still looks like a solid way to look at what seems to be a beautifully-designed movement architecture.
