Introducing The Speake-Marin Spirit Pioneer: A Casual, Military Watch With Independent Spirit (Live Photos)
November 14, 2011
You're looking at a brand new watch from Speake-Marin.? Called the Spirit Pioneer, this is a military-inspired casual ticker that was announced just Friday at Salon QP in London.? Using Speake-Marin's now trademark Piccadilly case, the Spirit Pioneer is an allusion to an early 20th century military watch that Peter himself purchased and modified back when he was a young watchmaker in the Burlington Arcade.?The watch also serves as a nod to the hardships that all humans go through in their lives, and the caseback is engraved with "Fight, Love, & Persevere."?The dial is black lacquer and the use of three dimentional super-luminova make this watch incredibly visible in the dark.? The case is made of stainless steel, is sized at 38mm and Speake-Marin has chosen one hell of a durable leather strap for the Spirit Pioneer.? Inside this new watch is the FW2012 automatic movement which is a modified ETA.? But, with Speake-Marin we are talking real modification, including: Bridges, gear train, setting lever spring, mainplate and rotor wheel replaced and/or re-designed, oversized, circled, spotted, straight grained and polished by hand.? Of course, there is an in-house designed Speake-Marin rotor, too.Only 68 Spirit Pioneers wil be made and more than half have been spoken for by existing clients.? This is actually the least expensive Speake-Marin wristwatch made to date, and it was created as a very special, personal project by Peter.? Price is 9,800CHF and more details are available here.
