IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Edition Laureus Sport For Good Foundation Every year for the past seven, IWC fans and collectors awaitthe release of the companys limited edition Laureus timepieces. Thedistinctive blue dials and commemorative caseback engravings set these specialwatches apart from the standard editions. For those unfamiliar with the LaureusSport for Good Foundation, it is a nonprofit organization that aims to help underprivilegedchildren in difficult circumstances specifically through the use of sportsprograms. The Foundation has put in place over 140 programs worldwide and isoverseen by an impressive group of world class athletes, from Olympians to soccerand tennis stars. IWCs involvement in Laureus consists of more than just aspecial edition watch. The company helped establish the Swiss chapter of theorganization and has helped drive the good work done there and in othercountries.This years commemorative Laureus watch is a variation ofthe Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph, which also saw a special titanium VolvoOcean Race edition last year. The new one has the standard Yacht Club's steel case, rubber strapand IWCs in-house 89365 calibre flyback chronograph movement but features adistinctive shimmering blue dial which works particularly well on thisnautical-themed watch. The caseback features an engraving designed by a SriLankan boy, Hakkini Hasanga Sandumal De Silva, and depicts sprinters, fans andthe Olympic flame on it. Hakkini is one boy who has benefitted from Laureusswork, at the Seenigama Sports Project, which has organized sporting events for childrenin a region that was impacted by 2004s tsunami and a long civil war. His sketch,which was the winner of a contest, will appear in relief on the caseback withcommemorative text surrounding it.
