Introducing: The IWC 'Laureus Sport for Good' Portugieser Hand-Wound Monopusher Limited Edition (Live Pics & Pricing)
February 17, 2020
A longstanding relationship between IWC and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation has produced a number of special watches that have both appealed to collectors and fueled highly focused altruistic projects. This time, IWC has produced a Portugieser monopusher chronograph that features the company's impressive hand-wound 59360. The mission is to aid in training children and adults with mental disabilities in Olympic sports disciplines.? The watch features the signature blue dial found on all the Laureus watches, and the hands wear a sharp rhodium plating to make them pop against the distinct blue. The 46mm case is fashioned from stainless steel. The aforementioned 59360 features an eight-day power reserve, while displaying small seconds at six o'clock, a power reserve indicator at nine, and an elapsed time register at twelve.?This is the 14th special edition IWC has produced in conjunction with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, and there will only be 500 made. ? Initial Thoughts When it comes to limited editions, many manufacturers can quickly get lost in the weeds. It's particularly impressive the level of focus and commitment IWC has demonstrated to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation with a large range of limited editions over the years. ?IWC has done an excellent job building out an entire line of watches that maintain visual continuity and a clear mission. It's interesting from a collector's perspective, but what's even more impressive is that this is a sustained effort, not a one-off marketing stunt. The efficacy of IWC's and Laureus' efforts are multiplied the more the relationship grows and develops. And of course, the design of the watches matures as well. For this monopusher chronograph, IWC opted to integrate the pusher into the crown. It creates a neat, clean line in the case. On the caseback, there's an illustration by 15-year-old Yi Xin from China. It's meant to portray friendship.?
