The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Date

April 09, 2015

Getting a simple three-hander right is an elusive accomplishment. Whether its a dive watch or formal wear, the little details can make or break everything, and it is in the latter that Jaeger-LeCoultre has excelled with the new Master Ultra Thin Date. Sleek and balanced proportions are made possible thanks to the svelte JLC-manufactured caliber 899, which even packs an automatic winding system and date complication for good measure. At just 7.45 mm thick, the Ultra Thin Date has made little in the way of compromises.Ultra thin watches are nothing new at Jaeger-LeCoultre. Theyve managed to fit a diverse range of complications within their Master Ultra Thin family, including perpetual calendars and tourbillons alike. If your budget is under the $10,000 mark, the Ultra Thin Date will be your entry to this club. For 2015, the watch gains another layer of subtlety. The new Master Ultra Thin Date will be offered in a steel case, sized at 40 mm in diameter and 7.45 mm thick. The watch sets powdered dots between the applied hour markers, and the Dauphine hands are all matched in color (opposed to the blue seconds hand on last years model). Its a step closer to a completely sterile dial, but presents all necessary information in a restrained fashion.Pricing for the new Ultra Thin Date is set at $8,100. Entry to Piagets uber-thin Altiplano collection is double that amount (granted, youd be getting a thinner, still gold case). The new Jaeger-LeCoultre will be available later this year from authorized retailers. Learn more here.
