Introducing: The Mido Commander Shade

To celebrate its 100th anniversary this year, Mido is releasing a number of watches that pay tribute to models from its archive. The watch we have here is the Commander Shade, inspired by a 1979 version of the Commander (a watch that Mido has had in constant production since it debuted in 1959). The Commander Shade has a 37mm stainless steel case with almost no bezel to speak of, which gives the grey and black dial plenty of room to breathe. It's a three-hander with day and date windows at three o'clock, and the addition of the steel mesh bracelet completes the super '70s look.There is a limited edition, rose gold PVD version of this watch being released as well, though Mido has not provided photos or additional details about this version yet. Initial Thoughts Vintage tribute watches are basically de rigueur for every brand at this point, so it's no surprise that Mido would use a big anniversary like this to pull from the best of its past. I love that the brand chose to make this watch in a 37mm case and with that bracelet. Both are going to be love/hate choices, but I'm definitely in the former camp. If this watch and the Multifort Datometer are evidence of how Mido is thinking these days, I think we've got a lot to be happy about.
