Found: Original Owner of 1970s Heuer Autavia Lists Watch On Ebay, But Not Before Getting Into A Moped Accident

December 23, 2016

An original owner vintage chronograph is the type of thing we're all looking for on Ebay C and Louis always does a wonderful job at finding them for you in our weekly Bring A Loupe column. Today, though Louis's Bring A Loupe is queued up for later in the day, I thought I'd call attention to an original owner automatic Autavia listed on Ebay in Germany. An original watch like this always has a lot of interest in it, but few, if any that I can recall, have also survived the tragedy of the most dramatic of human occurrences C a moped accident.? Indeed, this gentleman, at one point or another, fell off his moped while wearing his Autavia. And now, because of the 1,500 bill required to fix it, he's decided to sell his watch, purchased originally in the 1970s. Luckily for him, the watch is rather rare C despite somehow featuring a GMT-style bezel on a white, manually wound "Siffert" style dial. No matter, as the watch in all its moped-induced disarray, complete with crystal so cracked one can barely see the dial and even a torn strap (??), sold for a strong? 6,265.50 with total 31 bids.?(h/t to who else but On The Dash) ADVERTISEMENT
