Introducing: The Oris Movember Edition 2019

October 22, 2019

For the third year in a row, Oris is releasing a special edition watch for Movember, the global men's mental health charity. The original 2017 Movember Edition was based on the Divers Sixty-Five, and last year's model was a variation on the Big Crown Pointer Date. This year we're getting a take on the ChronOris, a vintage-inspired piece that was added back into the Oris catalog two years ago.?The Movember Edition still has the same 39mm stainless steel case, the same dual crown configuration, the same domed crystal, and the same internal rotating bezel as the other ChronOris models, but it's distinguished by a new color scheme that recalls vintage gilt dials, with rose gold dial accents on the bezel, hour markers, logo printing, and even the hands (which are actually rose gold plated). To further the connection to Movember (which is, for the record, a portmanteau of "moustache" and "November"), the leather strap option is stamped with two moustaches between the side stitches and there's also a special red and white fabric NATO that's include with both the leather strap and steel bracelet models. Part of the proceeds from each watch sold go directly to Movember, so when you're supporting a good cause when you add a new watch to your collection. Initial Thoughts Oris is a watch brand that's not afraid to take a stand and support causes that its executives and team members believe in. From Movember to watches with recycled plastic straps, it's nice to see a company that, at the end of the day, is selling pure luxuries, work to give back and make the world a bit better in the process. Personally, charity component aside though, this is by far my favorite version of the ChronOris Date yet. I really like that it embraces the idea of being vintage-inspired without going full-on fauxtina. The gilt accents are nicely balanced by the white hour markers, and the orange seconds hand adds a pop of brightness against and otherwise low-key dial. I'd probably wear this one mostly on the NATO, but I think if you're going to get the Movember watch, getting it without the special leather strap would be silly C so for my money, I'd skip the bracelet this go-around.One thing worth noting is that to add some extra oomph to this year's Movember edition, Oris worked with New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone on a marketing and promotional campaign. With the Yankees recent run at the American League pennant, this surely helped get the word out and hopefully brought a few new people into the watch collecting fold in the process.
