Introducing: The Patek Philippe Ref. 5740 Nautilus Perpetual Calendar
March 21, 2018
For the very first time, Patek Philippe has released a Nautilus perpetual calendar. The reference 5740G is a solid white gold Nautilus measuring 40mm across with a recognizable QP layout on the dial that shows the month, day, date, leap year, moonphase, and 24-hour cycle (a la watches like the 3940 et al). While the complication is new, this watch is a Nautilus through and through C we've got the classic blue dial with the horizontal ribbing, luminous applied markers and hands, and the mix of brushed and polished finishes that give the watch so much dynamism.? Initial Thoughts I mean...it's kind of hard not to get excited about this one. Sure, it's non-traditional, but Patek has taken two great things C the Nautilus and the Caliber 240 Q and put them together. You've got one of the most classic designs of all time meeting a quintessential PP movement. The fact that the watch is 40mm in diameter and just 8.32mm thick is awesome (I'm sure the temptation was there to go for something a little larger) and I'm sure it wears super well on the wrist. For some context, the latest Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar is 9.5mm thick and the insane RD#2 is 6.3mm thick, so we're talking about something pretty svelte here. Plus, considering the years-long waitlist for the reference 5711 (the basic time-and-date Nautilus), I'm guessing that getting your hands on this watch is going to be difficult.
