Introducing: The Patek Philippe Ladies Pilot Calatrava Travel Time Ref. 7234A
September 26, 2019
You may recall two years ago that Patek Philippe hosted the Grand Exhibition in New York City. It was the talk of the watch town with plenty of horological delights to behold. Im talking enameling, woodwork, museum pieces, and handful of new watches. It was wild. Well the Grand-Expo is back, but this time in Singapore. The party kicks off tomorrow (Friday for those of you who don't know what day it is like myself, currently in Singapore) and there are some new treats to be seen. Kicking things off is the first ever stainless steel Calatrava Pilots watch C the reference 7234A.? The original ref. 7234 was released at Baselworld 2018 and was a smaller ladies' version of the 5524G in rose gold. The 7234 was very exciting because it was the smaller version of the beloved Calatrava Pilots watch measuring 37.5mm instead of 42mm. It has the same incredible automatic movement (the caliber 324 S C FUS) and all the same functions (time, date, second time zone, day/night indicator). The limited edition 7234A that you see here is technically the same as the rose gold version, however, it has a blue-grey sunburst dial with a matching Cordura synthetic strap, and, importantly, the case is stainless steel. The sapphire caseback is engraved with Patek Philippe Singapore 2019 and only 400 pieces will be available in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The Patek Philippe 7234R released at Baselworld in 2018. Initial Thoughts I love it. I absolutely love this watch. When I covered the 7234R back in 2018, I was a little "meh" about it. Sure it was smaller, sure it was rose gold, but if Im being completely honest, the brown dial just wasnt my jam. Blue-grey and steel, however? Totally my jam. It also comes as no surprise to me that Patek would do something like this for the Singapore exhibition. For the New York exhibition, Patek released a Calatrava Pilots watch reference 5522A that was limited to 600 pieces, selling for $21,547, and they flew (and I mean flew) off the shelves. ?I have no doubt that the 7234A will have the same fate especially since there isnt a gosh-darn steel sports watch left in the world (Im looking at you 5711 and no-date Submariner). The only thing that will upset people about this watch is that its only available in Southeast Asia.
