Editors' Picks: The Best Everyday Watches From SIHH 2018

January 24, 2018

Yesterday we talked about the watches that most surprised us at SIHH and today we have rounded up our favorite everyday watches. These range from the inexpensive to the more expensive, from steel to platinum. Without further ado, here are our picks for the best everyday watches. Cara Barrett C Cartier Tank Cintre In Platinum One of my favorite watches from the show this year was the Cartier Tank Cintre trio in pink or yellow gold and platinum. I've always had a soft spot for the Cintre and now it is back with a modern case and manual-winding movement in three different metals. The price on this watch ranges from $20,000 to $23,000 which is pricey for an everyday watch (even for me) and unfortunately I prefer the platinum version with ruby-set crown which is the most expensive of the bunch. But if I am being totally honest this is a classic watch that I would certainly wear everyday and gold tends to be too soft for everyday wear which is why I would go with the platinum. Now if only money grew on trees... $20,400 (pink gold or yellow gold), $23,500 (platinum); cartier.com Jon Bues C Panerai Luminor Base Logo 3 Days Acciaio The Panerai Luminor Base Logo 3 Days Acciaio on the left. Ive always enjoyed the aesthetic of a Panerai Luminor. The fact that the company broke out from its relative obscurity as a naval supplier to become one of the most popular luxury watch brands of recent time owes lots to a winning design, I think. The Luminor Base Logo is a back to basics watch for Panerai. It stands out as one of the absolute best values to be had at SIHH. Here we have a great-looking Panerai watch with a hand-wound in-house P.6000 caliber with three days of power reserve, and it costs just $4,750. $4,750; panerai.com Jack Forster C Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic COSC The Clifton Baumatic COSC is an every day watch with a vengeance. Its one of the most interesting releases from Baume & Mercier in some time: a COSC certified self-winding chronometer with a five-day power reserve and a design that makes it one of the most versatile watches we saw at the SIHH. Dimensions and proportions, as well as overall design and excellent legibility, make it a true go-anywhere watch and the fact that its been specifically engineered for longer intervals between services is icing on the cake. $2,790; baume-et-mercier.com Stephen Pulvirent C Cartier Drive Extra-Flat In Yellow Gold Yeah, I'm picking a yellow gold watch for my top everyday release of SIHH 2018. I was a fan of the Drive Extra-Flat when it was released last year in pink and white gold, and my love for the slim, shaped Cartier only grew when I saw it in both steel and yellow gold last week. Choosing between the two new metals is no easy task (as I've said before), but ultimately the warm gold case amplifies the vintage look and feels just right to me. I honestly don't need something built like a tank for my day-to-day and I think this is one that would bring a smile to my face each time I strapped it on. What more can you ask for than that? $15,400; cartier.com Ben Clymer C Audemars Piguet Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin In Titanium And Platinum The reference 15202 (ne 14802, ne 5402) AP Jumbo, in any metal really, is kinda the best watch in the world. Or at least top three. I've believed so for as long as I can remember. Or, at the very least since I bought my first, in 2010. The thin profile, the "if we must have a date than at least make it like this" date window, the incredible history, the varied high levels of case finishing, and ultimate wearability make the Jumbo just about perfect. And while there was nothing wrong with the 15202ST, why not have a little fun and play with titanium and platinum? Titanium is light and hard, platinum is soft and shiny. AP has a history of mixing metals and this is a killer high-end every day watch that adds a dose of specialness to a watch we see in the watch community often.? $34,800; audemarspiguet.com You can read all of our SIHH 2018 coverage here in our complete guide to all the new releases.
