Sinn Launches New Colorful 556 Models

Germany's Sinn is not officially taking part in Watches and Wonders 2022, but that didn't stop the company from traveling to Geneva from its Frankfurt headquarters to take part in the inaugural C and (sorry) awkwardly named C?"Time To Watches" exhibition. Hosted at the HEAD (Haute cole d'art et de design) campus, also known as the Geneva University of Art & Design, Time To Watches is one of a number of outside fairs taking place in Geneva this week, alongside the big show. As part of Time To Watches, Sinn showcased its first few releases of the year, headlined by a quartet of colorful new options in the company's entry-level 556 series. Limited to 400 pieces in each colorway, the latest 556 watches are available in Emerald Green, Carnelian Red, Citrine Yellow, and C?no, it's not a collab with Tiffany & Co. C?Aquamarine Blue. The dials are finished using a colorful varnish that gives each watch an eye-catching metallic aesthetic. It's quite the departure from Sinn's typical low-key, matte dial designs, and it's somewhat contrasted by the standard satin-finish of the 556's 38.5mm 11mm stainless steel case. In fact, other than the tint of the dial, the new 556 watches are practically identical to the 556 you know and love. That means 200 meters of water resistance, a screw-down crown, sword-shaped hands, a straightforward self-winding bauche (from Sellita) ticking away inside, and sapphire crystals up front and around back. However, there is one remaining key difference from the standard 556 C the new limited-edition models dispose of the intrusive three o'clock date window. Is the new 556 Aquamarine Limited Edition a Sinn-ful take on Tiffany Blue? Sinn joins Rolex (with the Oyster Perpetual) and Omega (with the Seamaster Aqua Terra) in recently expanding its everyday-wear collection with brightly colored dial alternatives. Unlike Sinn's counterparts at Rolex and Omega, the new 556 watches are each limited-edition releases that I'm sure will sell out fairly quickly. Sinn has paired each of the four new 556 models with a grey canvas strap and is offering them up for a very fair price of $1,460. What We Think I will admit these four new watches took me a bit by surprise. Sinn is known for producing purpose-built tools, and the 556 has long been a forum-favorite for its easy legibility, mid-size proportions, and general affordability. These new watches are a touch less legible but don't lose any points on the wearability and accessibility front. Sinn 556 Emerald Limited Edition Sinn 556 Carnelian Limited Edition I'm sure there will be some naysayers in the comment section decrying Sinn for seeming to hop on the colorful dial bandwagon, alongside Omega's new Aqua Terras and, before that, Rolex's Oyster Perpetuals. I don't care. I'm on the record as a big-time fan of Sinn's wacky, off-the-beaten-path sport watches, and to me, these latest 556 pieces are just a colorful evolution of the company's classic tool-watch style.
