London-based menswear purveyor Hackett was founded in 1983 C the very same year Swatch got its start C by the sublimely elegant Jeremy Hackett and Ashley Lloyd-Jennings. They started trading on the Portobello Road, having shared a mutual appreciation for vintage clothing, before opening their first bricks and mortar location in Parsons Green, selling second-hand clothing and accessories. Since then the company has built partnerships with an array of companies ranging from the Army polo team, the Oxford and Cambridge boat race, Lotus F1 Racing team, Aston Martin C and now Swatch. This is the first time the two brands have collaborated, and the watch is a stainless steel Sistem51 Irony limited to 1983 pieces, a nod to that all-important shared founding date. The Sistem51 on the wrist. Initial Thoughts The Sistem51 is badass. Plain and simple. Many of you will remember the Sistem51 HODINKEE Vintage 84 we launched almost one year ago C so there's no doubt we really believe in the product line. However, this is a very different sort of take on the archetype. The Swatch x Hackett Sistem51 boasts a 42mm stainless steel case, a dark green dial with a brown silhouette of Mr. Jeremy Hacketts beloved Sussex spaniel, Muffin (a fine looking specimen indeed). The date window is at three oclock, framed in a bowler hat, a symbol of the Hackett brand, and the slim, fixed green bezel is broken down into two-second increments.?Turn the watch over and you see the traditional Sistem51 architecture, including the entirely-made-by-machine movement. For this watch though, there's a special born in 1983 green stamp on the transparent case back.?This is a watch that will undoubtedly be worn by both men and women comfortable in their skin and out to have fun C the best place to be.?
