Introducing: The Chopard L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25
April 10, 2024
As part of a considerable wave of new releases from Chopard for Watches & Wonders 2024, the brand has announced a limited edition take on the existing L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25 that uses a white gold case and a black enamel dial. With only 100 pieces being made, this LE offers a considered alternative to the previous limited edition L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25, which had a rose gold case and a white enamel dial.? Measuring 40mm wide, this jumping hour L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25 is 10.3mm thick, and?the case is made from Chopard's own ethical 18-carat white gold. The dial, too, has a white gold base for the black Grand Feu enamel treatment. The deep black of the dial sets the stage for minimal text, a central minutes hand and outer minute track, and a large digital jumping hour display at six. Water resistance is 50 meters, and the L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25 comes fitted with a black gator strap with a white gold buckle.? Tucked under that black enamel dial, we find a special movement from Chopard's Quattro family, named for its use of four barrels and the resulting massive power reserve of 192 hours. Forget a dress watch that can sit out a weekend; this L.U.C model is good for eight full days. Originally launched for the 25th anniversary of Chopard's manufacture, the movement is the L.U.C 98-06-L, and its hand-wound ticks at 4 Hz and proudly carries the Hallmark of Geneva.? Being an L.U.C model, the movement is beautifully finished, and there is even a fully practical application for the display case back, as it allows you to see the power reserve indication that is integrated into the backside of the movement. With a price tag of $52,000, the black-dialed L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25 is limited to just 100 pieces.? What We Think Chopard's L.U.C line was one of my first personal introductions to legit high-end mechanical watchmaking, and I've been enamored by their creations ever since I first put an L.U.C Perpetual Twin on my wrist during an early visit to Baselworld nearly a decade ago. With watches like the L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25, I think Chopard continues to offer something truly special and exciting both in terms of the aesthetic (this jump hour is, to my eyes, gorgeous) and in qualified haute horology. ? On that front, the combination of the novelty of the jump hour and the general complexity and specs of the movement makes for a watch with a unique appeal that highlights so much of what makes Chopard an interesting competitor in the high-end segment.?
