The H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Concept Minute Repeater Tourbillon Aqua Blue

May 23, 2022

Earlier this week, H. Moser & Cie. took the wraps off the latest iteration of their stunning Endeavour Concept Minute Repeater Tourbillon. The new kid on the block is a 40mm execution of either 18K red gold or titanium, each with a gorgeous aqua blue dial that uses grand feu enamel on a hammered surface. Still packing a 1-minute flying tourbillon and a full minute repeater complication, this Endeavour may be a bit smaller than its predecessors, but it's certainly not lacking when it comes to Moser's unique appeal.? Originally launched in 2019 with a 43mm white gold case, 2021 saw a titanium follow-up of the same size, and now we have a 40mm option in red gold or titanium, both of which are limited to 20 pieces. The new case also houses a new movement, the HMC 904 (vs. the 903 in the 43mm versions), which, like its forebearer, is a hand-wound movement with 90 hours of power reserve, a rate of ?3 Hz, and is hand-finished and beautifully decorated.? Using what Moser calls a partially skeletonized movement, the Endeavour Concept Minute Repeater Tourbillon's dial floats in the center, flanked by the tourbillon and minute repeater hammers, while also surrounded by the repeater's gongs. In the hopes of having the smoothest action, the minute repeater's sliding bolt (set into the nine o'clock case flank) uses a runner made of Teflon.? What We Think It takes a lot of care to put this much raw complication on full display while also managing Moser's signature minimalism. With no dial text or markers, the dial?becomes a stage for the complications. While I've not seen the watch in the metal, judging by the images, the end result is nicely balanced while also offering plenty to look at.? Additionally, the decision to offer both the traditional (red gold) and the unconventional (titanium), speaks to Moser's youthful and often modern perspective on watch design. Some would only want such a watch in precious metal, while others will be delighted by the sporty and somewhat more subdued nature of titanium (as subdued as such a watch can be, I suppose).? Priced at $365,000 for either version, the Endeavour Concept Minute Repeater Tourbillon represents a flagship for how Moser thinks about complications, branding, and the manner in which their take on watch design can scale to suit a variety of sizes and functions.? With 43mm being on the larger side of current tastes, this pair of 40mm offerings make a lot of sense for Moser die-hards who want some serious and elegant watchmaking in an otherwise wrist-friendly package. If you're lucky enough to own one of these someday, I hope you let it chime for anyone who will listen.? The Basics Brand: H. Moser & Cie.
