Introducing: The New TAG Heuer Aquaracer GMT

Dark as the night and blue as the day, TAG Heuer has released a new Aquaracer GMT for 2020, replete with a blue and black 24-hour bezel. A new addition to the collection, this watch bears some similarity to another GMT watch we have come to know and love, but TAG Heuer has injected the Aquaracer water-sport DNA into this watch in a way that differentiates it in terms of overall functionality. What's good for the jet set is good for the jet-ski.? Initial Thoughts This watch takes all of the GMT functionality C the aluminum bi-directional 24-hour bezel and the ability to track multiple time zones C and pairs it with a robust and recognizable design which carries through the rest of the Aquaracer collection. It is well known that Rolex released the GMT BLNR in 2013, which introduced this particular bi-color bezel combination. While this watch may bear a similarity to that watch in that regard, it is hard to fault TAG Heuer for the choice. This combination of colors simply makes sense on a GMT watch: The blue tracks the day, and the black tracks the night. That is where any similarity effectively stops, because TAG Heuer has a case design here which is wholly and entirely its own. With its angular lugs and sloped case sides, the Aquaracer GMT pits polished and brushed surfaces against a variety of case peaks and valleys. And then there is the dial, which is decorated with a ridged, brushed design and a sun-ray finish, all in blue. As a GMT, the Aquaracer really shines in a unique way, giving users the ability to track multiple time zones. The Calibre 7 movement allows for an independently movable GMT hand, which in this case is done in blue with a large pointed arrow that touches the outer minute track on the dial. The watch is sealed with a screw-down crown which allows for 300m of water resistance. While the case sizing may seem a little large at 43mm, it fits with the overall aesthetic of the watch as a robust jack-of-all-trades. The design has a certain handsomeness and masculinity which is paired smartly with the sunburst, patterned dial. As an added bonus, the lumed markers and bezel pip are done in a dual-color Super-LumiNova as well. As with other models in this line, the Aquaracer GMT comes on a steel bracelet with a twin-release button clasp. From a functionality perspective, the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer GMT hits all the marks a sports watch should hit.
