The New Tudor Black Bay Goes Monochrome

We could have called it last year when we saw the revamped Black Bay Burgundy. If I had been a betting man I would've assumed this year we would be seeing it in black and blue. I would have half lost that bet. There's no blue, but there is a black... in an unexpectedly revamped form. Today Tudor reveals the Black Bay in monochrome, which is the newest iteration of the brand's all-black diver. This watch is essentially the black version of the Black Bay Burgundy from last year. That means the new five-link bracelet from 2023, a new crown, the T-Fit clasp, a trio of strap options (five-link, Oyster, rubber), a new teethier bezel a la the Submariner, and the Master Chronometer certification printed on the dial. But unlike last year's release, and similar to the way the old blue model was designed, this new Black Bay features no gilt whatsoever. It brings a clean, fresh look to the Black Bay line and shows that the 41mm BB is still a core watch for the brand. What We Think Tudor clearly knows what it's doing. At W&W 2023, the brand released the Black Bay 54, a smaller version of the Black Bay 58. A key callout for that watch was the stark bezel with no gilt affectation to speak of. This year, Tudor took that idea and blew it out with the 41mm Black Bay C the latest evolution of the watch that positively transformed the brand more than a decade ago. The monochrome color scheme is a ?"no gilt nothing" approach and a more minimal look and feel for the Black Bay. The case last year was trimmed (now 13.5mm) and refined bringing the BB that much closer to its older sibling. With this new watch, the look feels complete and fully realized. The updated bezel playing against the black dial feels like a grown-up Black Bay and the T-Fit clasp is a welcome addition.
