Introducing The New White Gold Cosmograph Daytonas with Mother-of-Pearl Dials

Rolex has graced us with two new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona in 18 carat white gold. One white mother-of-pearl with Oysterflex bracelet and one black mother-of-pearl dial with Oyster bracelet, both with inverse contrasting mother-of-pearl sub-dials and a bezel set with 36 brilliant-cut diamonds. Here's to the return of gem-set Daytona glory. This time a little more subdued than its exotic predecessors.? V1, fitted on an Oysterflex bracelet, features a dial in white mother-of-pearl with chronograph counters in black mother-of-pearl. The color combination is reversed on the second watch, which has an Oyster bracelet and a black mother-of-pearl dial with white mother-of-pearl counters. The tachymetric scale is replaced with diamonds, and the dial is set with eight diamonds and three Chromalight hour markers, with a coronet at 12 o'clock, of course. The Rolex Glidelock is now on the Oysterflex bracelet; it has six notches of approximately 2.5 mm, allowing the length of the bracelet to be effortlessly adjusted up to some 15 mm. The Cosmograph Daytona is equipped with self-winding caliber 4131 (first released last year), the movement features bridges decorated with Rolex C?tes de Genve and a cut-out oscillating weight. Caliber 4131 enables the standard measuring of intervals of time via the chronograph function, in addition to displaying the hours, minutes and seconds. The power reserve extends to approximately 72 hours. What We Think The watch world fawns over gem-set Daytonas. Admittedly, I might be top of that list as the first ever Rolex references I memorized were 6269 or 6270, so we are firmly in my kind of Rolex territory. While Rainbows, Leopards, and Eye of the Tiger dials may be for the bold and the brave (and 1%) of us, this mother-of-pearl, diamond set version feels like a more subdued kind of jewelry-watch hybrid. Rolex is a master of decorating sports watches in gems. Forever linked to the world of motor sports, the gems are a nod to the naughty '90s, but on a forever symbol of Rolex sport watches.
