Norqain Launches Mountain-Themed Neverest Line of Dive Watches
August 19, 2021
Swiss brand Norqain has just announced the latest addition to its Adventure lineup with the Neverest collection. Formed around three iterations of a sporty 40mm no-date dive watch, these are the first models in the Adventure series to feature Norqains higher-spec NN20/1 automatic movement. In keeping with the mountainous inspiration for the new line, a portion of the funds generated by Neverest collection sales will help to fund the Butterfly Help Project, which was founded to help support families of Sherpas who have died in the Himalayas and ensure that their children have access to education. All three watches are 40mm wide with steel cases, ceramic bezel inserts, 200 meters of water resistance, screw-down crowns, multiple mount options, and a chronometer-certified movement created via Norqains continued partnership with Kenissi. The three versions include the Neverest Glacier, which has a dial inspired by the peak of Mt. Everest and its infamous Khumbu Icefall (the dial is white with a crackled texture). Next up, there is the Neverest Steel, which has a deeply saturated green dial with a black bezel. And finally, there is the 100-piece limited edition Neverest Bicolor, with an 18K 5N reg gold bezel and dial accents surrounded by a black ceramic insert. All three models are no-date, have red accents for the Chronometer text and the tip of the seconds hand, and can be had with a bracelet, a rubber strap, or an elastic fabric strap. Pricing starts at $3,180 for the steel (green), $3,240 for the Glacier, and $4,680 for the limited edition Bicolor (more pricing details below). Not only do 10% of the proceeds go to the Butterfly Help Project, with plans to ensure that no less than 50 children will have their school needs covered (props to Norqain for being up-front about percentage), but you also get the first of the brands Adventure series to be fitted with their NN20/1 movement. Visible through a display caseback and ticking at 4Hz while offering some 70 hours of power reserve, the NN20/1 is COSC certified and was announced in 2020 in confirmation of Norqains partnership with movement-maker Kenissi, along with the NN20/2, which offers a GMT complication (Jack covered the release here last July). What We Think Nicely sized and appearing to be well-finished, the Neverest trio continues Norqains methodology of offering somewhat generic but well-made and luxurious sport watches. As a brand still getting comfortable within the changing world of watch enthusiasm, its not all that surprising that Norqain would seek to connect their brand with one of the pillar theatres of postmodern watch lore, the world of high-climbing alpinism and its feature peak, Mt. Everest. Thankfully, the connection is not merely superficial as the brand has selected a seemingly worthy partner in the Butterfly Help Project, which was founded by Everest alums Norbu Sherpa and Andre Sherpa-Zimmermann as an extension of their experiences as guides in the Himalayas with their outfit, Wild Yak Expeditions. The mountaineering industry in the area is heavily dependent on Sherpas and at times that dependence has become predatory as foreigners push for the summits of some of the worlds best-known mountains. The Butterfly Help Project seeks to support the families of those lost to the incredible dangers of mountaineering by directly supporting local families and schools. With a classic mix of conservative Swiss design and some go-anywhere charm, the Norqain Adventure Neverest line offers some much-needed support to a worthy project via a trio of well-specd and handsome sport watches that further evolve the brands growing lineup.
