The Omega Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon Collection
March 18, 2015
Omega continues to expand their Dark Side of the Moon collection this year with the introduction of four new models to the family: Black Black, Sedna Black, Pitch Black, and Vintage Black. Each feature cases constructed entirely from ceramic, and as their names imply, theyre all black. Diversity is found in their use of new colors and materials within the dial. Inspired by the astronauts of NASAs Apollo 8 mission, the new watches represent Earths night lights against the backdrop of space. The Black BlackThe Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Black Black features a stark, all-black dial. The hands and applied indexes are coated with black Super-LumiNova, while the sub-dials, chapter ring, tachy scale, and signage are all blacked out for this variant. Even the date ring is black on black. Were not sure about legibility, but we give it credit for going all-in on the black theme. The Sedna Black Omega has incorporated their exclusive rose-gold alloy into the detailing of the Dark Side of the Moon Sedna Black. The dial, bezel, and case are still entirely black ceramic, but 18K Sedna gold now complements some of the more important elements. The gold has been applied to the indexes and hands, and the bezel sees the stuff applied to its outer edge. Vintage Super-LumiNova fills in the gaps, coating the central hour, minute, and chronograph seconds hand, as well as the indexes and dots at 12 oclock. The Pitch BlackThe Dark Side of the Moon Pitch Black makes use of Super-LumiNova for every detail found on the dial and bezel. The matte-black ceramic dial is contrasted by the greenish hue of the LumiNova, which is applied to the indexes, hands, chapter ring, signage, date wheel, and even the tachymeter scale on the brushed ceramic bezel. The Vintage Black Like the Pitch Black, the Dark Side of the Moon Vintage Black employs Super-LumiNova for each of the dial and bezel components, but this time its vintage, or light brown, in appearance. The center hands are blackened with the vintage LumiNova inset, while varnished brown hands reside in the sub-dials at 3 and 9 oclock. The Vintage Black also stands out thanks to its brown leather strap to complement the dial. Each of the four watches retain the 44.25 mm dimensions and Omega Co-Axial caliber 9300 we see in the rest of the family. Well get our hands on these watches later this week in Basel, along with pricing and availability details. For more, visit Omega online.
