Introducing: The Oris Holstein Edition 2025

Today, Oris celebrates its birthday with the sixth installment in its annual Holstein Edition, a limited-edition watch designed to offer something a bit different for collectors to keep things interesting. In past years, we've seen funky dial colors and even an out-of-left-field revival of the brand's 90's era Full Steel travel time watch, and last year, a fully-blacked-out Divers Sixty-Five hit the proverbial shelves. This year, for the Holstein Edition 2025, Oris releases something a bit more toned down, though with a beary fun twist. It's clear at first glance that no colors have made it into 2025's edition. This year, a special steel no-date version of the ProPilot serves as the base, fully coated in black DLC, with a 41mm diameter and a thickness of 11.9mm. A white Super-LumiNova dial, complete with matte black applied numerals and black printing of the minutes track, Oris logo, and other markings, starkly contrasts the black case.?A matte black handset finishes off the stealthy look. While lume dials are now plenty out there in the world, Oris does add a very playful twist - in the dark, the silhouette of the Oris Bear head emerges between three and four o'clock, while the rest of the dial glows a familiar shade of Super-LumiNova green. Beating away inside the watch is the Oris Calibre 400, the brand's in-house caliber with 120 hours of power reserve. You can see it through the sapphire caseback, but this time the crystal is printed with a Super-LumiNova ring to mark the watch's collection name and year. Each caseback is equally marked 001/250, engraved on the outer screw-in caseback ring. The watch comes on a leather-lined textile strap, with the "LIFT" clasp also coated in DLC. The Holstein Edition 2025 is available through Oris boutiques, the eShop, and select retailers with a price of CHF 4,150. What We Think I love these Holstein Editions, mostly because they're a creative way to release something experimental every year without needing to stay within the bounds of any particular collection. Though it's purely conjecture, I assume that a great benefit to the brand is the ability to both test the market as well as new designs and processes in this collection in this year's Holstein edition, the playful use of a shadowed silhouette in the Oris Bear might mean that the brand is playing with lumed dials for future models. This is the most everyday wearable Holstein in the past few years, and I love that smiling bear on the dial in the dark. To me, it symbolizes what Oris does best, which is to inject a little bit of playfulness into every one of its watches. I'm actually surprised that a watch like this (sans bear) isn't already available in the standard collection, but this might prove to be a very tempting watch for someone who always wanted some of that fun from Oris without having to fully commit to it on the wrist. It's a safe, clean design with a subtle twist.
