Introducing: The Patek Philippe Ladies' Nautilus Ref. 7118
March 19, 2019
If you are a watch enthusiast, or at least read about watches from time to time, you probably know about the Patek Philippe Nautilus. The 5711 has been seriously trending and has become nearly impossible to get. Just ask your local AD for one and they will either tell you it's a 10 year waiting list or hang up on you. So it should come as no surprise that Patek is pushing this classic (dare I say "iconic"?) model (along with other sporty models such as the 5172 and the 5212A).? Cue the ladies' Nautilus reference 7118/1R. Currently the 7118 comes in steel or rose gold with diamonds. Now they have launched four additional 7118s: one in rose gold with a rose gold or opaline dial (pictured here) in addition to a steel version with diamond-set bezel. The 7118/1R has a restrained 35.2mm case and is 8.62mm thick. The watch is powered by the old faithful automatic caliber 324 SC movement, which is seen through the exposed caseback. The watch has the Nautilus bracelet we know and love, and the price of the watch is CHF 42,000.? The automatic caliber 324 SC used in the latest 7118/1R. Initial Thoughts Personally, I love this watch. I've always been a fan of the Nautilus and I think you would be hard pressed to find someone that disagrees (or maybe I just talk to the wrong people). I also love having options. And having a choice between the steel, steel with diamonds, rose gold with diamonds, and now a rose gold ladies' Nautilus seems like a no-brainer to me. Not to mention the 35.2mm case size is near-perfect for my wrist. The only qualm I have ever had about the ladies' Nautilus is the wavy lines on the dial. I'm a purist and to me the dial should have the straight line across the dial. But something tells me Patek Philippe does this intentionally to make the watch both feminine in design and in designation. Because let's get real C if this version existed in steel with a blue dial and straight-line ribbing (no Arabic numeral at 12), guys and gals would be jumping all over this one.
