Introducing: The Tudor Pelagos Ultra

April 01, 2025

The apex predator of toolishly modern Swiss dive watches now has a new flagship model, as Tudor has just released the new Pelagos Ultra. Now 43mm wide and rated to a whopping 1000 meters, the Ultra also gets Master Chronometer timekeeping as the Pelagos expands with the addition of this larger and higher-spec offering.? Being a Pelagos, the Ultra has a grade 2 titanium case (with a grade 5 case back). Interestingly, the Ultra is 43mm wide, compared to 42mm for the standard 500m Pelagos and 39mm for the Pelagos 39 (I have inquired as to thickness and L2L; no word yet, but stay tuned. Update: 14.47mm). The larger case size is met with an increase in water resistance that doubles the previously top-spec offering to an impressive 1000 meters.? Underneath the Pelagos Ultra's starkly legible matte black dial, we find another trick up the big dog's sleeve C Tudor's MT5612-U, a METAS Master Chronometer movement. Based on the MT5612 that we've seen used across an array of the brand's offerings, including other Pelagos models, the 5612-U is an automatic movement that offers time and date, ticks at 4 Hz, and has a power reserve of 65 hours.? Being a top-spec Pelagos, the bracelet is a big part of the offering, and the Pelagos Ultra continues on the path of the 500m with a full titanium bracelet with a T-Fit clasp and what Tudor is describing as a "diver's extension with new visual indicator system".? It's a brand new bracelet design for the Ultra that uses a similar spring-based system to offer a sliding scale of adjustment alongside the more common T-Fit extension. Where the Ultra mixes things up compared to the standard 500m is that the extension scale integrated into the clasp now has a luminous indication. Also, in keeping with Pelagos traditions, the Ultra includes a rubber strap option and a strap extension to add up to 110mm for a wetsuit.? The Tudor Pelagos Ultra (ref. 2543C1A7NU) is offered in a single., non-limited spec with a retail price of $5,950.? What We Think I must have missed the page in today's script where Tudor launched a larger, higher-spec Pelagosbut here we are. I did not see this coming, especially after the enthusiastic success of smaller offerings like the Pelagos 39. That said, in some ways, the Ultra feels like a foregone conclusion, as the standard model's 500m of water resistance isn't exactly class-leading (not that we're talking about a spec with any real-world application).? Adding in a Master Chronometer movement is a nice touch and certainly something that the general enthusiast base will want in their next Tudor, especially for models that represent the highest spec.? As a fella who remains firmly in the Pelagos 39 camp, I can't say that the sizing has any specific added appeal for me, but I do get how this grows the lineup and offers a platform for a bolder Pelagos. The dial design is oversized, the lume now comes in a two-color layout, heck, you even have lume on the bracelet. I don't think I've ever typed that in a sentence before! For those who prefer a larger watch or want what is effectively Tudor's answer to the Sea-Dweller (aka, the top model), the offering remains conventional and follows a playbook that is nearly as old as the dive watch itself. Take the priorities of the professional diving space and translate them into a consumer product. Make it big, make it tough, and make it cool (and don't forget the HeV). ? It's a brand new addition to one of my favorite model lines in all of the category, so I remain quite excited to see the new Pelagos Ultra later today at Watches and Wonders 2025.?Any questions for when we go hands-on, let us know in the comments below.?
