Introducing: The Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar
April 01, 2025
The more commercial releases of Vacheron Constantin's 270th anniversary are limited-edition aesthetic refreshes of core collection pieces and the re-release of the 222 in steel was one of our most-read stories of the year before Watches and Wonders. But as the makers of the most complicated watch in the world, there was no way that Vacheron would let the year go by without something new and complicated in the lineup. Well, here it is: the Traditionelle Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar. Cased in 42mm by 11.1mm platinum, the new ref. 6300 is powered by the brand's in-house caliber 2162 QP/270. The movement was developed off the 2018 Traditionelle self-winding tourbillon Calibre 2160. With a peripheral rotor for automatic winding, the movement measures 32.79mm by 6.55 mm, which helps keep the overall measurements relatively thin, but still maintains 72 hours of power reserve and 30m of water resistance, all with a display caseback. Keeping the rotor to the edge of the movement allows a better view of the brand's discreet 270th-anniversary engraving and the special 'c?te unique' finish on the bridges. That's the same finish that was brought back from vintage Vacherons into the modern lineup on the Historiques 1921 back in 2021. On the dial side, there are subdials showing the day of the week, month, and date, plus a leap year indicator aperture. The tourbillon has one blued screw on the Maltese cross-style cage, indicating running seconds as the tourbillon rotates. The white/silver dial is finished in the brand's new hand-guilloch motif, distinguishing the limited editions presented to celebrate Vacheron Constantin's 270th anniversary. The release is limited to 127 pieces, and the price has not been given yet, but we'll update you with more if it becomes available. What We Think Creating a new tourbillon perpetual calendar caliber is no small feat, but making one that is relatively thin like this new release from Vacheron, well that's an entirely different ballgame. At 42mm in diameter, it's still on the larger side when it comes to width C a frequent critique I could give for much of Vacheron's high-end lineup C?but balanced against an 11.1mm thickness, it's quite possible that the watch will wear incredibly comfortably.? The choice to display the tourbillon on the dial side will likely be the most divisive part of the design language. Some brands never do this C others do all the time. Anecdotally, I feel like I see more demand and collectability for watches with this combination of complications when the dial side is simplified and the tourbillon is left shown only on the movement side. Maybe there's something to be said about the balance of the dial when that's the case. Either way, I'll be curious to see how it looks (and wears) in person this week. Stay tuned for more over the coming days from Watches and Wonders C you can follow all of the show's new releases right here.
