Introducing: The New Tudor Glamour Double Date

November 14, 2018

When most people think of Tudor, they think of classic sports watches like the Black Bay and the Heritage Chrono. But the brand has always made a wide variety of watches, and continues to do so right to this day. One great example of this is the new Glamour Double Date, unveiled earlier today at an event in Hong Kong (with brand ambassador David Beckham, no less). These new models build off a familiar archetype, but with a new in-house movement under the hood and a number of aesthetic changes too. At its core, the watch is a 42mm daily-wearer with a sub-seconds dial and a two-window big date complication up at 12 o'clock. It's definitely a dressier Tudor than what you're probably used to.There are quite a few variations of these new Glamour Double Dates available from today. You can choose from either a stainless steel or a two-tone stainless steel and yellow gold case, dials in opaline, silver, champagne, or black (with or without diamond hour markers), and leather straps with folding buckles or matching metal bracelets. There are 22 possible combinations in all. Importantly, all are powered by the caliber MT5641, an in-house movement with a silicon balance spring, a 70-hour power reserve, and a COSC chronometer certification. The steel versions on a strap are now the most affordable Tudors with in-house movements, priced at $3,200. The Glamour Double Date is a dressier Tudor than what you're probably used to. Initial Thoughts To say that Tudor is having a strong year would be an understatement. Baselworld 2018 saw the release of both the Black Bay GMT and the Black Bay Fifty-Eight, two of the more popular sports watches of the year, both of which still have waitlists at most retailers as we head into the holiday shopping season. With the introduction of the new Glamour Double Date, Tudor is looking at a different part of its product catalog though, refreshing the dressier end of the spectrum and giving customers who might want a less overtly sporty watch something to enjoy. My favorite bit about this though is the way Tudor doubled-down (if you'll pardon the sort-of-pun) on making these watches technologically strong and high value for money. The entire range is powered by an in-house caliber equipped with a silicon hairspring, presenting a new entry point into the brand's own calibers. For just over $3,000 you're getting a lot of watch here, and that's before you take the Tudor pedigree, branding, and styling into account. Overall, the Glamour Double Date is a strong release and one that might gets people looking at Tudor's non-sports watches in a new way.
