Watch Spotting at the Oscars 2025

The 97th Annual Academy Awards have arrived, and while my entire stream of focus will be fixed on Timothe Chalamet's wardrobe choicefollowing his Chrome Hearts baby pink fever dream (complete with a baby Ballon Bleu on a pink strap) at the Berlin Film Festival last monththe Oscars remain the procession of glamour we all anticipate the most, capping off a long tirade of red carpets during award season. The Oscars are generally more sartorially conservative than the Grammys or SAG Awards. This is the night when nominees will likely opt for a glamorous gown la Julia Roberts in Valentino (circa 2001) or a sharp black tux in the vein of peak '90s Jack Nicholson. If we're lucky, we'll get a fashion-forward take on black tie from the likes of Colman Domingoor, if I'm really lucky, a 2025 version of Bjork's swan dress. There's no denying that many of the watches seen tonight fall under the scope of brand-celebrity partnershipsaka 'pay-to-play,' which, as a watch enthusiast, can be a tough pill to swallow. Despite the prevalence of brand deals on the red carpet, both in fashion and watches, we continue to pay attention and cover the events, always hoping to be surprised. This year, swerves from the norm include Timmy's 1994 Cartier Baignoire, Colman Domingo in a gem-set Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and an uptick in bootcut suit pants (see Robert Downey Jr.).
