Introducing: The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver Chronograph
It was six years ago that Audemars Piguet released their very first ISO certified divers watch, the Royal Oak Offshore Diver. Some of you may recall an in-depth review of the this watch conducted by Jason Heaton, our resident diver and contributor. It was here that he tested the capabilities of this cult classic. While Jason did find some technical flaws, such as the internal bezel being difficult to use, he found the overall visibility to be optimal. The conclusion? Maybe not the best watch for diving and timing underwater BUT certainly a cool watch and very collectible from a horological standpoint. With that said, you can...
Introducing: The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin Openworked, Now In Yellow Gold
Back at SIHH 2012, Audemars Piguet released the Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin Openworked in platinum. This watch was an instant high-end hit and people (especially people here at HODINKEE) loved it. So you can imagine our excitement to see that AP has re-released the Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin, now in yellow gold. As you may know, Audemars Piguet is known for their openworked watches and the great amount of craftsmanship that goes into each piece is incredible. The first skeletonized AP was created around 1921 (a pocket watch with skeletonized dial) and the first skeletonized Royal Oak was made in 1986 (1993 for the fi...

Originally released in 2012 at SIHH, this elegant and understated design is favored by vintage and modern watch lovers alike (and the CEO of Audemars Piguet, Fran?ois Bennahmias). Introducing: The A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon
Welp, it's official. I want a tourbillon. And a big, bad tourbillon. Say hello to the brand new, just announced A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon. It sounds simple enough, right? I mean Lange showed us the updated Dato Perpetual last year, so what's the big deal about adding a tourbillon? Well, this is Lange, and Lange doesn't do anything the easy way C this limited edition block of platinum is anything but ordinary and I'll tell you all about it below. The Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon is limited to 100 pieces, all in platinum. Essentially what we have here are three high-end complications pieced together. ...
Introducing: The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked Reference 15407
The openworked Royal Oak has been around for years, but the originator of this line could be 2010's 15305. Then, we saw in 2012 and 2014 respectively, the traditional 39 mm Jumbo get "openworked" in platinum and rose gold. Now, we see the current 41 mm Royal Oak, reference 15400 openworked for the first time, but with a brand new double-balance wheel escapement that is a world's first! Now AP has produced a few very high-end watches in the past that used two balance springs, but not two balance wheels. They include the Millenary Quadriennium and Millenary Minute Repeater with AP Escapement. The thinking here is that having tw...
The navigation theme has been a pretty prominent one in Montblancs recent production C probably most visibly, in the watches named for the famous Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama C but this year Montblancs pretty much pulled out all the stops in making something that speaks both to the history of marine chronometers, as well as showcasing the artisanal side of watchmaking in the Montblanc portfolio as it exists at the Minerva movement manufacture (the counterpart to the somewhat larger scale production facility that Montblanc maintains in Le Locle). ?The Montblanc Collection Tourbillon Cylindrique Pocket Watch 110 Years Edition (with which Montblanc challenges Audemars Piguet for Brand T...
Introducing: The New F.P. Journe Octa Divine, With A Redesigned Dial And Larger Case
While SIHH 2016 is certainly the main topic in the watch world right now, it is not the only game in town when it comes to watch announcements this week. F.P. Journe has announced an update of their Octa Divine watch. ?You may recall that earlier this year F.P. Journe released a box set to commemorate the end of their production of 38 mm watches. In tandem with dropping the 38 mm size, Journe is also doing a piece-by-piece redesign of the collection. The thought with the redesign is that the old version will be discontinued, and the new version of the watch will available in 40 mm and 42 mm sizes. In order to do this, the dial needs to be redesigned because it wouldnt look right to simply p...
Introducing: The A. Lange & Sohne Grand Lange One Moonphase Lumen
Lange is having a break-out year at SIHH, and that's saying a lot because, you know, this is Lange. Adding to the fire is this new Grand Lange 1 Moonphase Lumen, the third open dial watch from Lange in its 21 year history. The last Lange to receive the "Lumen" treatment was at SIHH 2013 and that was a similar watch, the regular Grand Lange 1. Lange has taken this base model and given the same look to the slightly more expensive and esoteric Grande Lange 1 Moonphase, with the moonphase display being at the very center of the action here. Different from Langes ...

The movement used is the caliber MB 24.18 (a step up from the 4810 Automatic). The new 4810 Day-Date will retail for $2,785. Mor...
Introducing: The Montblanc 4810 Chronograph Automatic

The new 4810 Chronograph Automatic features a 43 mm stainless-steel case (previously the watch was available in 44 to 47 mm). The dial is the familiar silvered guilloch with exploding star pattern and has applied red-gold-plated Roman numerals. The dial is composed of multiple layers of sapphire crystal that rotate accordingly. The main difference between the Spirit model and the 1480 is the color scheme. While last...

The Lange 1 is already available in pink gold, yellow gold, and platinum. The new Lange 1 was released at SIHH in 2015, and was one of our favorite releases from last year. It was completely rebuilt with two changes to the dial: a thinner bezel and a slightly less pronounced A on the dial signature. They also added a new caliber movement, the L.121.1 manual winding movement with a 72-hour power reserve. The watch you see here is still the same with the exception of ...
Introducing: The A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Moon Phase
A. Lange & Sohne has released a new addition to the classic Saxonia line C the Saxonia Moon Phase. This watch perfectly combines three of Langes strengths C the outsized date, moon-phase precision, and clean dial layout. This a wonderful new entry-level-for-Lange addition. The new Saxonia Moon Phase features the L086.5 automatic movement which is a similar movement (with added moon phase complication) to the L086.1 used in the Saxonia Automatic. The watch comes in both white gold and pink gold 40 mm case, which is larger than the standard Saxonia model (they range from 37 to 39 mm). The silvered dial features the outsize...
Introducing: The A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin
The Saxonia Thin, part of the iconic A. Lange & Sohne line that has already seen the introduction of the new Saxonia Moon Phase at SIHH 2016, is now being re-released with slight changes to the dial. The case measures at 40 mm and 5.9 mm thick and is available in white or pink gold. It features the same L093.1 manual winding movement (which is only 2.9 mm thick). One noticeable change to the dial is the removal of the dots at the end of each index C and the indexes have also been elongated. ...
It seems to be the year of tourbillons for A. Lange & Sohne (and a lot of other brands). They just released the Lange Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon and are continuing to utilize the impressive technique with the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, which isn't a new watch, but is new in white gold with a killer grey dial. You may remember this watch from 2013, when Lange released the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst, a beautifully crafted timepiece with hand-engraved dial, and even earlier when the watch was shown in simple platinum and rose gold. The piece was impressive both in technological terms and...
