Introducing The Longines Spirit Zulu Time 39
Last year, Longines introduced the Zulu Time, a collection of six watches in the Spirit family that featured a "flyer" GMT, as my editor James Stacey would call it (that's a jumping local 12-hour hand, as opposed to the "caller" GMT with a jumping 24-hour hand C for those not familiar with Staceyisms). Look at the comments of that article from last March, and you'll notice a couple of things: First, at under $3,000, the Spirit Zulu Time was an immediate hit. Second, some were asking for it in 39mm. Well, those wishes have come true as Longines has just introduced four new Spirit Zulu Time models in 39mm, including?the option of a two-tone finish. ...
24 Hours Of Le Mans Photo Report
There are some dreams that never came true for me. Going to the moon (I'll never get over this); and becoming a race car driver (there's still hope, right?). I couldn't tell you how first-grade me knew what the 24 Hours of Le Mans was, but he knew, and knew he wanted to be there driving, of course. However, life happens the way it does and things change. NASA conveniently decides to set out for the moon, only after I decide against pursuing engineering after my first year in university, and I never quite had the prerequisite large fortune to fund a smaller fortune spent motor racing. ?But, these dreams hold fast, and when the realization hit that this year was the 100th anniversary of the ...
Introducing: The Citizen Series 8 GMT
Citizen is back with a brand-new GMT based on their higher-end Series 8 platform. These new models join the existing line of time-and-date integrated bracelet steel sports watches with a trio of new references powered by the brand's travel-friendly mechanical GMT movement. With a pair in steel rocking the go-to colors for a GMT and a gold-tone LE, these upmarket Citizens blend several known concepts into a single watch with everyday appeal and time zone-jumping functionality.? Regardless of the finish, all three of these new Series 8 models measure 41mm wide and 13.5mm thick. The given references are listed below, but you can pic...
IWC Big Pilot White Ceramic Lake Tahoe' Perpetual Calendar Review
Last month, during F1 Miami, news broke of a mysterious new IWC Big Pilot after photos surfaced of Lewis Hamilton wearing the watch prior to the race. It wasn't hard to figure out what the watch was C something about the 46mm+ case size, stark white case & bracelet plus the complicated dial layout made it easily spottable without even zooming in on the photo. But there was one issue a month ago: The watch didn't exist at the time, at least not officially. Well, that's different now as IWC has properly unveiled this hunk of white ceramic. The Lake Tahoe C a name conceived by IWC and Pantone to describe the white color C ?desig...
Meet The Men Who Own Grand Central Watch
It's been said before but bears repeating: Grand Central Watch is a New York City watch-repair institution. More accurately, it is an institution within an institution, having occupied an inconspicuous storefront in Grand Central Terminal since 1952. An institution, wrapped in an institution, inside the 45th Street Passageway. Left to right: Max, Larry, and Steve, the three generations of Kivels of Grand Central Watch, pictured in 1994. Photo: courtesy Steve Kivel We first met third-generation owner Steve Kivel in 2014, and we learned that Grand Central Watch had come a long way since it was founded by Steve's grandfather, Max...

Made in very limited quantities; this special TAG Heuer blends the classic automotive-derived form of the Carrera with elements of Lang's own distinctive style and perspective.? Rendered in solid 18k rose gold, this Carrera is 42mm wide and 14.4mm thick, with a sapphire crystal, 100m of water resistance, and a gold dial with a pair of black sub-dials and a matching black rehaut. ? Jaeger-LeCoultre Introduces Second Vintage Collection Of The Collectibles
First introduced in January of this year to celebrate Jaeger-LeCoultre's 190th anniversary, the Collectibles is the manufacturer's new program focused on restoring its vintage watches from what it calls the golden age of 20th-century watchmaking, the 1920s to 1970s. Last week, JLC unveiled its second collection of vintage watches under the Collectibles in Los Angeles, offering 11 historically important watches for sale.? Image courtesy of Brandon Menancio What makes the Collectibles special is the thought and effort that goes into acquiring, and then fully servicing and restoring this small collection of vintage watches. I don...

Back in March, Breitling released four new Top Time chronographs based around four iconic classic cars. But if you're a motorcycle fan and felt left out, your wait is over. Introducing the new Breitling Top Time chronographs with Triumph motorcycles and Australian motorcycle, apparel, and accessory and lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina. The new Breitling Triumph Top Time The two new watches, powered by the Breitling Manufacture Calibre 01, build on the Breitling past limited edition collaborations with the two brands but now with their third and now core-collection release. For all the use of unique materials in watchmaking nowadays, how many of you know what the first fiberglass timepiece was? Well you're looking at that watch's modern successor, the new Tissot Sideral, now with a forged carbon and stainless steel case and some strong vintage vibes. Back in 1971, the original Sideral S launched featuring the brand's lightweight fiberglass case from 1969 but made in a bright new yellow color which (apparently) became an iconic design that I somehow missed in my years of reading about watches. I can't believe it took me this long to see the incredible punchy color of the original Sideral S but Tissot...
Introducing Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Chronograph Calendar Gold
Jaeger-LeCoultre has introduced a new variation of its Master Control Chronograph Calendar: pink gold with a black dial. You'd be forgiven for thinking the Master Control Calendar Chronograph was a model in JLC's catalog for the last generation or two, something you might find in its Collectibles (that we featured just yesterday). Surprisingly, it was only introduced in 2020 as part of the manufacturer's revamped Master Control lineup that dates to 1992, and a fine addition at that. But this latest update with a black dial and red print takes its vintage inspiration to the next level.? This variant is the same Master Control Chro...
Photo Report: Racing The 2023 Mille Miglia
As we pull into the center of Rimini, Italy, our 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster whips into the oncoming lane around about 20 cars stopped at a red light, and smoothly settles into the intersection in front of them. A 1954 Mercedes 300 SL (that I'd later find out had been plucked from Cuba in a story worthy of its own novel) follows suit and I see the man in the driver's seat next to me nod to the neighboring car and say, "Go?" The driver of the Gullwing nods back. A 1952 Zagato Fiat 750 Berlinetta piloted by Hidemoto Kimura of Japan. The light turns green, and both cars peel out, racing at 90+ km/h toward the Arch of Augustus in t...
A History of Vintage Piaget Watches
Piaget didn't even register its own trademark until 1943, despite watchmaker Georges-douard Piaget founding his workshop in the Swiss Jura in 1874. For most of its existence, Piaget was just fine ticking in the background, quietly making some of the most capable mechanical movements in Switzerland. But when it started putting its own name on the dial, that changed in an extravagant way. Soon, Piaget's lavish style became nearly synonymous with an era of opulence, a symbol of aspirational American high society in the '60s and '70s just as much as the roster of names who wore it: Andy Warhol, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Miles Davis, Elvis Presley, and many others....
Glashtte Original's New Sixties Small Seconds Review
Early last month I had the chance to finally visit Glashtte, the cradle of German watchmaking, and finally got to see for myself the magic that is this tiny town of incredible horology. After years of reading about it (and it's fascinating history), it never really sunk in how small and alive that history is today. Just last week Glashtte Original released its new Sixties Small Seconds model, a 42mm rose gold dress watch. But I'm guessing quite a few people don't know how much the watch C and the brand itself C?harkens back to the town's history.? Welcome to Glashtte. How many brands can you spot in this photo? Let's begin ...
Introducing The Timex World Time 1972 Reissue
Timex is at it again with another funky 1970s throwback. This time, it's the Timex World Time 1972 Reissue, a chunky, vintage-inspired quartz world timer. At just $179, it's pretty much everything we've come to expect from Timex's reissues of its heritage designs.? The Wold Time 1972 Reissue measures 39mm in diameter, and the chunky, barrel-shaped case with short lugs means it should wear with a relatively short lug-to-lug (measurement not given). The stainless steel case is polished on the sides and features circular brushing on the top, giving way to the black aluminum rotating world-time bezel. The bezel looks to have slight g...
From callers and flyers to dual times and more, the past few years have seen a specific increase in the popularity of the travel watch. In part kick-started by the 2018 release of Tudor's Black Bay GMT, fans of travel watches have witnessed a mounting of arms in the mechanical sub-luxury space. New movements have led to new watches, and increased competition in the space has made it a buyer's market that manages to offer an incredible amount of variety in terms of sizing, functionality, and scope. Earlier this year, Seiko threw its own hat in the ring with a Prospex-derived trio of premium mechanical dive GMTs, including this one, the gregariously green SPB381. ...

When it comes to wearing clothes and accessories, there are no rules for Bad Gal Riri. Whether you deem her approach fearless, or avant- grade or even C dare I say it C attention-hungry (if you think this, I'm sorry but you are wrong because Rihanna's outfits are always perfect), she plays by her own rules. She's ever the talking point when it comes to fashion choices from meme-worthy Guo Pei Met gala dresses to Lil Kim homages to naked crystal dresses with matching crystal du-rags. Richard Mille RM 72-01 Le Mans Classic Limited Edition
This year marks the 100th year of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and when the famed endurance race ran a couple of weeks ago C we were there, and it was rad. But that's not the only race to be held on the Circuit de la Sarthe this month, as the track is also host to the biennial Le Mans Classic, a vintage racing event that will run from June 29th to July 2nd. In honor of both the centenary of Le Mans and the 11th installment of the Le Mans Classic, Richard Mille has announced a limited edition iteration of its RM 72-01 Flyback Chronograph called the RM 72-01 Le Mans Classic.? Richard Mille has been a partner of the Le Mans Classic even...
Hands-On: Citizen Promaster Diver 37mm
Surprises abound in this industry. The key is to roll with them. When I wrote up the new Citizen Promaster 37mm divers a couple of weeks back, I had an image in my head of what these watches would look like in the metal. Smaller is better, so a smaller diver will be better, right? Well, now that I've had proper time with the blue version of the 37mm Promaster with its bright blue strap, I think it's time to ditch the superlatives. The 37mm riff on the known Citizen dive watch is not better or worse than its larger predecessor C it's different in a surprising way. I opened the box that this watch comes in C it's more of a canister in the mold of an oxygen tank (a ...
