Timex x Cara Barrett Edition V1 Review
It's been two years since Cara Barrett officially bid adieu to her editing days at Hodinkee C and she's been busy. Not only has she founded her own colorful brand of kids' watches with Parchie, but she was also very quickly approached by Giorgio Galli at Timex to gauge her interest in personally collaborating on a watch. Striking an impressive balance between Cara's keen knowledge of vintage design and her penchant for horological joy, the result of her collaboration with Timex has arrived: The Timex x Cara Barrett Edition V1. One of the great strengths of this piece is that it has a little something for the sea...
The Citizen Promaster Dive Automatic NY0155-58X Shine Bright
There's a solitary shaft of light that pierces through a small opening in the 55-foot-high ceiling of the geothermal hot spring known as "The Crater" in Midway, Utah. It's home to a 65-foot-deep pool of calcium-rich bright blue water that stays a constant 95 degrees, year-round. The light reaches the bottom, but just barely. Even when the sun is high, down there it's an ever-lasting twilight. It's bright enough to make out Travertine rock formations and other divers, but dark enough that details get lost in front of you. The bottom of the crater is made up of a pillow-like bed of silt that's constantly stirred up by the flow of the springs that feed the mineral-rich pool.?Between the blue gl...

The watches have the same retro touches as any Divers Sixty-Five model, with stainless steel case and bezel, and a choice between riveted three-link steel bracelet or recycled perlon straps in blue, green, or pink to match the dials. The watches are 38mm with the Oris caliber 733 and C if they follow suit of the other cal. 733 Divers Sixty-Fi...
Hands-On Review Of New Seiko 5 Sports Watches 2023
In 2019, Seiko laid the foundation for its new Seiko 5 Sports lineup, introducing a bunch of new references. Our own James Stacey did an in-depth review of them all, weaving in the history of the Seiko 5 and SKX along the way. Here's how he concluded that Week On The Wrist:"While not a true dive watch, I do think the new Seiko 5 manages to uphold the SKX007's legacy as a value-driven and everyday-ready sports watch that is perfect for those who are just dipping their toe into the bubbling waters of watch enthusiasm. To that, I say jump in!"You might like it, you might not, but this is the Seiko 5 we've got. Four years and hundreds of references later, it's time to embrace it. To celebrate th...
Trilobe Une Folle Journe Watch Video Review: A Week On The Wrist
A bunch of us here at Hodinkee have quite the affinity for the hand-less little wonders that the French independent brand Trilobe has been producing since its 2018 debut. Their take on telling time with rotating discs and rings is truly unique, and we're definitely here for it. We like them so much we even collaborated on a special edition of the brand's Nuit Fantastique that I semi-tried to convince my wife to let me purchase (sadly, she side-eyed me when I even hinted at the idea). While I lost that battle, I was still lucky enough to spend a week with and capture on video their more avant garde model, the Une Folle Journe (or "a wild day" in French), to see if such a wildly designed watc...
Girard-Perregeaux Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition 38mm Review
The fusion of watch and automotive enthusiasm is not novel. These shared interests intersect constantly. Whether we are talking about the Rolex Daytona or the Heuer Carrera or even Porsche Design C the throughlines are all there. The two arenas marry ideas of history, craftsmanship, and performance. They are ripe with storytelling in silos and even more when joined together. In 2021, Girard-Perregeaux and Aston Martin entered into such a marriage, allowing the two storied brands to collaborate across various mediums. Earlier this year, they unveiled a special Laureato (GP's iconic integrated sports watch) in a color known well by motor heads: British Racing Green...
Hands-On: Chopard's New Mille Miglia Chronograph Bridges Old And New
Designing a watch around a car race is a curious challenge.?You have the obvious and iconic pick, the Rolex Daytona, which has evolved over time, but always fits the era it's designed for. But what about designing a watch for 2023 befitting a race happening in 2023, but with cars from 66 to nearly 100 years old? What would you make that encapsulates that weird overlap of modern technology and classic design? I'm not sure what I could come up with, but I think Chopard's new 40.5mm Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph certainly fits the bill. A few weeks ago I was able to spend some time wearing two of the new Mille Miglia Classic chro...
History Of The Unique Cartier Cheich Watch
I was in Italy a few weeks ago working on a piece for Hodinkee Magazine Vol. 12 (coming soon!), but one watch I saw there was so special I had to share it now. It's a Cartier I didn't even know existed, and I'd bet a lot of others don't know about it either. This is a custom-made, one-of-a-kind, white-gold Cartier Cheich from 2010, made for one of the most important Cartier collectors of the past few decades. Let me explain. The original Cartier Cheich that sold at Sotheby's for 1 million in September 2022. Just last year, we featured the Cartier Cheich from the '...
Omega 75th Anniversary Seamaster Diver 300m Review
A 75th anniversary is not one you let slip by without a proper event. And so Omega set out for Mykonos this year to blow out the candles for the Seamaster. We've seen a slew of updates across the entire collection, but here we are going to focus on the modern centerpiece of the model range: The Seamaster Diver 300m, sometimes referred to as the SMP300m. This is the watch made famous by James Bond in Goldeneye, the one that cemented Omega as the watch of 007. Over the years it has undergone numerous changes in form, size, and color. In 2018, Omega released the latest design of the watch C upsizing it from 41mm to 42mm and adding the controversial (but now accepted...
Omega Ploprof 75th Anniversary Review
Today we are celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Seamaster collection, and Omega has reconceived one certain crazy, destro diver in a very thoughtful way. Say hello to the new and very special Ploprof The first thing you'll see is that it isn't the color palette you're used to seeing on a Ploprof, and that's because there is a theme for this year's launches: all blue everything, but with reason. Each Seamaster you'll see unveiled today (and there are plenty) will be done in a shade of blue corresponding to its depth capability. Seeing as this one is water resistant to 1200m, the blue on the bezel and the outer portions of the gradient dial are quite dark. ...
Omega 75th Anniversary Seamaster 300 Review
You may be noticing a trend in today's coverage C a lot of Omega releases. And if you haven't figured it out yet, the reason for so many releases is the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the entire Seamaster line which dates back to 1948 (...which was 75 years ago). Now that we've cleared that up we can turn our attention to yet another new release in the collection: the Seamaster 300. This design variation on the original Seamaster diver dates back to 2021, when Omega took its existing Seamaster 300 range and tweaked it considerably. We're talking additions like a sandwich dial, the return of an aluminum bezel, and a pared-down dial layout. The overall look wa...
75th Anniversary Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M And Planet Ocean 6000M 'Ultra Deep' Review
With a day of releases that seems to have touched nearly every part of the Seamaster lineup, of course the brand couldn't leave out its two deepest-diving watches, the Planet Ocean 600M and Seamaster Planet Ocean 6000M Ultra Deep. These two watches are built to withstand serious pressure and both have gotten a new C albeit familiar C look. Let's dive in. The Planet Ocean 600M The new Planet Ocean 600M measures 39.5mm by 14.2mm. Those dimensions are for a dive watch fitted with a helium escape valve, rated for 600m of water resistance, featuring a solid caseback with the new Poseidon motif, and a very blue...

The blue wave of Omega's 75th Anniversary celebrations continues with the Aqua Terra line receiving the same "Summer Blue" treatment that the brand has given a wide swath of their new models C including a new Ploprof?and new colorways for the Seamaster Pro, Seamaster 300, Planet Ocean, and the Ultra Deep. For the Aqua Terra line, the blue-on-blue color scheme has been applied to the Worldtimer alongside both the 38mm and 41mm versions of the standard model.? The Aqua Terra 38mm Starting with the 38mm Aqua Terra 150M Co-Axial Chronometer C this anniversary edition is technically unchanged from the standard model, which has been available i...

Omega Seamaster 75th Anniversary Video Review
Omega had quite a busy day in Mykonos where it unveiled 11 new watches to commemorate the Seamaster's 75th anniversary (we wrote about it here, here, here, and even here). It teased these new models throughout the last few days with many speculating that new case designs and bracelets were on the horizon.? Instead, Omega gave us the same Seamasters we've grown accustomed to over the last few years, but with a few twists that I think make them just the right amount of special for this legendary lineup's exceptional milestone. Of course, I could go on about this in writing, but that would mean you would miss out on the accompanying...
Harrison Ford's Hamilton Watch In 'Indian Jones And The Dial Of Destiny'
In the late 1970s, Steven Spielberg C fresh off his WWII romp, 1941 C had his sights set on directing a James Bond film. His friend George Lucas, however, had other ideas. Claiming to have an original story worked out, Lucas told his friend Spielberg that he had a project better than Bond. It was about a character (then) named Indiana Smith, an archeologist and adventurer sent to far-flung locales to track down notable antiquities. It was in the mold of swashbuckling heroes of the films of their youth, like Bogart in Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), but with the flare of Connery in Dr. No (1962) The two began collaborating, along with famed screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, and the result wa...

Watches And Fashion Of The 2023 Henley Royal Regatta
Surely Wes Anderson has a hand in directing the scene that is the Henley Royal Regatta, a spectacle held each year in Henley-on-Thames, an hour and a world away from the modern headaches of London. Since 1839, rowing clubs from across the world have descended upon the?Henley Royal Regatta each year to dress up in their brightest rowing blazers and most colorful dresses, mill about the banks of the River Thames between white picket fences of increasingly exclusive "enclosures" with their draconian dress codes for ladies and gentlemen, and even engage in a rowing competition.? Henley-on-Thames The spectators span generations. At...

Tudor Pelagos FXD Alinghi Red Bull Racing Chronograph In Carbon
Big news today from Tudor as the brand has launched two new Pelagos FXD variations in celebration of its partnership with Alinghi Red Bull Racing, an America's Cup yacht racing team. With a new chronograph and both models rocking carbon composite cases, it's a big change from the Pelagos FXD's original military-derived intent, so let's get to the details. ?? With one time-only model (ref 25707KN) coming in at 42mm and a brand new chronograph (25807KN) C a first for any Pelagos model C coming in at 43mm, both of these new FXDs have matte blue dials with red accents (think: Red Bull).
