Business News: Smaller Watch Brands Are Already Raising Prices In Response To US Tariffs
Some watch brands have started raising prices for US consumers in response to tariffs on Swiss goods imposed by the White House. Christopher Ward, the biggest British brand by sales, sent an email to US customers and clients informing them that they would be responsible for paying the duty of 31% on the brand's Swiss-made watches imported to the US.While some of the biggest Swiss watchmakers have enough stock in US stores to avoid taking immediate action on prices, direct-to-consumer brands like Christopher Ward, which ships watches to customers as they are ordered, had no choice but to pass on the cost to US clients, the company's top executive said.? ...
Introducing: The Christopher Ward C12 'Loco' (Live Pics)
Big news out of Maidenhead, England, and Biel, Switzerland, today as the two locales for Christopher Ward's watchmaking have announced their next new big release C the C12 "Loco". It's a new model that takes the brand's integrated sports watch, "The Twelve," and adds the new manually-wound in-house calibre, the CW-003, with a striking open balance design. The name is both a reference to the Locomotive train, driving the development of Christopher Ward forward, and because they say the watch is a bit crazy. The watch you see in the live pictures is a pre-production piece, so we'll be sharing a few photos directly from Christopher Ward as well. ...
Hands-On: Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Geographic
If I had to give out my picks for best slate of releases at Watches and Wonders, Jaeger-LeCoultre would certainly be in the running for the top prize. From more entry-level Reverso Tribute Duoface to the incredible high-end Tribute Minute Repeater and Hybris Artistica (and some enamel pieces) and a few things in between, there's plenty to talk about. While a certain pink-gold Reverso Monoface was maybe the star of the show, I wanted to start with something that I feel was overlooked but struck me as a quiet, strong reinterpretation of the Reverso Tribute Geographic in a more elegant fashion. The Reverso Tribute Geographic has all...
Hands-On: TAG Heuer's Revival Of The Formula 1
I love a fun watch. And while at Watches and Wonders in Geneva, you see some of the most extravagant and incredible pieces of watchmaking all under one roof, sometimes the palate cleanser becomes the memorable part. And nothing could be more true than when I finally got to see TAG Heuer's new Formula 1 models in person. Now, I suppose these didn't just come out of the blue. Credit where credit is due, the brand seems to have found its footing in the past few years as it starts to develop a better balance between heritage for the collectors and modernity for, well, all its other customers think moves like the Glassbox Carrera and (shameless plug) our own Hodinke...
Just Because: Fifteen Minutes With A Steel Patek 1518
On the Monday before Watches and Wonders, already 10 meetings into our busiest week of the year, I got a text from my friend, the collector, dealer, and Talking Watches alumnus Adam Victor that read something like this:"You know, Davide [Parmegiani] is in town. You might want to go by and say hi. I promise it'll be worth your while." I had a packed schedule with only about 20 minutes between appointments, but I trust Victor's take on these kinds of things. I also know that the upcoming Monaco Legend auction (where Parmegiani is co-chairman) might be one of their most varied yet. I just didn't know what Adam meant until I walked d...
President Trump said he would pause so-called 'reciprocal' tariffs against most nations for 90 days, giving the Swiss watch industry breathing room for the Alpine nation's government to negotiate a deal to avoid punishing cost increases in its top export market. The US president announced on Truth Social that the levies, including a 31% tariff on Swiss goods, would be delayed. A 10% tariff on goods imported into the US will remain in place, a White House spokesperson said. Significant tariffs against China will also stay in effect. The delay gives Swiss officials time to strike a potential deal and avoid a likely drop in sales for Swiss watchmakers in their bigge...
Hands-On: Audemars Piguets Newest Ceramic Royal Oaks In The Brands Historic Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50
Back in 2022, Audemars Piguet launched their eye-catching blue ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in a shade straight from the brightest blues in a box of Crayolas. Bold, loud, technical, and with materials done in a way that had made a name for itself, it was everything that Audemars Piguet was under the helm of then-CEO Fran?ois-Henry Bennahmias.? The first blue ceramic case from Audemars Piguet. But then 2023 rolled around and, on the way into his retirement from AP, Bennahmias dropped a nugget of information in a Talking Watches he did with our own Ben Clymer: it wasn't the blue he wanted. He wanted something deeper, dar...
Meet The Watchmakers Behind The Next Generation Of Gerald Genta
In an era when digital technology threatened to overturn centuries of Swiss watchmaking tradition, Grald Genta was a consummate innovator and a designer who has had a profound impact on the world of watches since the 1970s. While the watch industry scrambled to adapt to quartz technology in the 1970s and 1980s, Genta created some of history's most iconic mechanical watches by defying modern convention and doubling down on mechanical complexity and a varied design language that wasn't afraid to experiment with remixes of convention and form. With his eponymous brandjust recently relaunched with La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuittonhis legacy lives on. As such, we're proud to present a video i...
Introducing: The Biver Automatique Is Back In Yellow Gold And A New Carbon Dial
Since the launch of industry icon Jean-Claude Biver's eponymous brand back in 2023, Biver Watches has slowly and steadily added quite a few models to its collection, including various forms of the ultra-complicated Carillon Tourbillon as well as the three-hander Automatique. Just last month, the brand quietly debuted what I think have been the strongest designs to date (in its extravagant simplicity) for a Japan-exclusive edition with black and white enamel dials. For the rest of the market, Biver has just announced two new models of the Automatique in 18k 3N yellow gold. The first model, the very self-explanatory Automatique Yel...
Editors' Picks: Our Favorite Watches From Watches And Wonders 2025
Last week, the Hodinkee team, along with just about everyone who works in the world of watches, went to Geneva to cover the latest releases for Watches and Wonders and several other smaller events held in the Swiss city. After a week straight of meetings, we got to see many of this year's core novelties, and the following Editor's Picks offers a selection of our favorites from another big year of releases. From A. Lange & Sohne to Chopard, Angelus to Cartier, and even a dash of German travel timers, it's a list that highlights both the breadth of the announcements and also the taste among the editorial team here at Hodinkee. We also made a video for the picks, which you can see here.?Onc...
Green Jackets And Great Watches: Celebrating Masters Week
In honor of Masters Week, we've compiled some of our golf-themed stories from over the years. It's early April, and those sweet, dulcet tones of Dave Loggins followed by a "Hello, friends" from Mr. Jim Nantz can only mean one thing: it's time to head down to Augusta. It's one of the best weeks of the year, in my opinion, and I'll be glued to the television starting with the close of business on Friday evening and going all the way through to Sunday when the final putt drops. Masters week officially ends, however, when Hodinkee posts our Watch Spotting article from the Masters champion from the Awards Ceremony, so stay tuned for that. And then, the countdown to the 2026 Masters will begin. ...
Introducing: Timex Revives The Intrepid and Q Timex Ana-Digi Designs
After an absolutely whirlwind of a week in Geneva for Watches and Wonders, where I got to see some of the craziest watches I've ever laid my eyes on, I've found myself needing a reset around watches, and that means going back to the basics for wrist time my Giorgio Galli S2 Timex has been the daily. So, in that vein, I thought it might be interesting to talk about two of the newest vintage reissues from Timex in a month full of minute repeaters, Grand Feu enamel, and lots of precious metal. Treat this as a nice break amongst the many hands-on articles we'll be publishing about cool and expensive things we saw in Geneva. Timex 1995 Intrepid Reissue ...
Introducing: Furlan Marri's 'Red Hunter' Celebrates The Brand's Fourth Anniversary (Live Pics)
Four years ago, Furlan Marri scratched the right itch at the right time with a Kickstarter star of a series with MechaQuartz-powered Tasti Tondi-inspired chronographs at an affordable price. It was the kind of thing that could have just been a Covid-era flash in the pan, but Furlan Marri turned it into a full-fledged brand. Now with mechanical dress watches, affordable flyback chronographs, an upcoming perpetual calendar, and a brand new Disco Volante with vintage touches for a modern era, the brand has a lot of options. Now, to celebrate their fourth anniversary, Furlan Marri is launching something new: the "Red Hunter" Fourth Anniversary model. ...
Welcome back to Bring A Loupe, and happy Friday! After a week's hiatus, allowing the newest novelties from Watches and Wonders to take center stage, your favorite round-up of older novelties from around the web is back and better than ever. You don't have to comment, telling me how much you missed Bring A Loupe; I'll assume every reader wants to, and we don't want to flood the comments! As for results, the picks from the last edition proved to fall on deaf ears, to be honest. Gus Grissom's Omega Speedmaster remains available at $415,000, while Neil Armstrong's is up to $1,366,694 at RR Auctions. The Eterna Super Kontiki has been relisted on eBay for $3,900, but o...
To celebrate its 250th anniversary, Breguet is reaching into the archives not for a tourbillon or a complication-laden pocket watch, but for a then-revolutionary idea that once brought high-end watchmaking to a wider audience. The word "souscription" is now firmly a part of the enthusiast watch world lexicon, yet its use is always a cap doff to the greatest watchmaker to ever live, Abraham-Louis Breguet. The Breguet Classique Souscription 2025 It's time for a quick history lesson. In 1775, Abraham-Louis Breguet established his workshop (and "brand") in Paris. From the beginning, Breguet produced watches on a level unmatched ...
"I've got to go get a green jacket," Rory McIlroy says as he celebrates with family and friends after winning the first playoff hole at the Masters against Justin Rose.?On the sports calendar, there's nothing more significant than Masters Sunday. It takes an otherworldly amount of nerve and resolve to enter the final round with a lead and maintain it with a host of worthy chasers, but Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy did just that. He had the added pressure of becoming just the sixth player to complete the Career Grand Slam, which, by his own admission, was becoming less and less of a possibility as the years went by. While you can head over to any number of sports websites to cover golf stor...
Hands-On: An Onslaught Of Stone Dials With H. Moser & Cie's Pop Collection
When I first caught wind that H. Moser & Cie. would be introducing a new "POP! Collection," I was quite intrigued. Such a name for a collection, in my mind at least, conjured up thoughts of colorful plastic watches and comic book art. Moser is also no stranger to horological stunts cheese cases, "digital" dials, and all so I was ready for something downright weird here. Would we get a plastic Moonswatch-like take on a Moser? Would we get a canvas dial hand-painted by a member of the Meylan family? I suppose it was a feeling of relief and mild disappointment when I saw what the "POP!" collection actually looked like, and it was a far more normal release for Moser standards, at least...
Introducing: The Baltic Scalegraph Tour Auto 2025 Limited Edition
Baltic's three-register chronograph returns as the official timekeeper for the 2025 Tour Auto, introducing a brand-new limited edition that signals the beginning of something significant. The Scalegraph Tour Auto Limited Edition launches a fresh model for the branda sportier and more capable evolution of its chronograph lineup. The watch features a 39.5mm stainless steel case, a 14.1mm thickness, a double-domed sapphire crystal, and a 47mm lug-to-lug. So what's new? Why is this an evolution of the other Baltic chronographs you may have seen? Screw-down pushers and 100 meters of water resistance. Inside ticks the Sellita SW510-M,...
Photo Report: Hot Lapping Goodwood Members' Meeting With IWC
This past weekend, the 82nd Goodwood Members' Meeting kicked off the Goodwood calendar for the year with a weekend of vintage car racing and all the excitement that comes with it. IWC has been the Members' Meeting official timing partner since 2015, but this year is something special as the brand is heavily involved in the upcoming F1 film, which comes from Apple Original Films and is being released to the world on June 27th of this year.? As such, IWC was running a considerable promotional program at the Members' Meeting, including a pop-up with the movie watches, a display with both track and roadcars from the film, the presenc...
Hands-On: The Doxa Sub 250T GMT 'Gulfshore' And 'Afterglow' Limited Editions
If you hang around James Stacey enough, you automatically become a Doxa fan. I'll admit, I've always had a soft spot for the Sub 300 Carbon, especially the 'Whitepearl' with its fully-lumed dial. But when I had a chance to preview a few upcoming releases from Doxa in Geneva earlier this month, two new takes on the just-released Doxa Sub 250T GMT caught my eye. As it turns out, these were two new limited edition colorways for retailer Exquisite Timepieces: the Doxa Sub 250T 'Gulfshore' and 'Afterglow.' It's quite interesting to me that limited editions of a model are being released less than a month after the initial launch of nine colorways. But these colors are ...
