Omega has kicked off the week with a bang. It's not even 8:00 AM in New York yet and the Swiss watchmaker has already dropped a hot refresh of the Speedmaster '57 as well as a totally new take on the Planet Ocean that builds on the record-breaking Ultra Deep dive watch, first seen in 2019. The final bit of Omega news we can share with you today isn't a major collection overhaul or an entirely new product C?there are no broken records to discuss. But in terms of everyday-wear appeal, the latest additions to the Seamaster Aqua Terra might end up being today's most exciting release.? Omega is skipping over the Aqua Terra's recogniza...

Omega started 2022 by introducing a top-of-the-line take on the design language of the very first Speedmaster, 1957's ref. CK 2915, to commemorate the model's 65th anniversary. Outfitted in the company's proprietary Canopus gold alloy and featuring the absolutely lovely revival of the Lemania-based caliber 321, that limited-production release is priced at an eye-watering $81,000. Ever since then, we've been wondering when Omega might release a CK 2915 anniversary watch that's priced in the realm of mere mortals.? Well, as of today, we know. Omega has just announced a complete refresh...

Watches used to be something that attracted a particular kind of obsessive, narrow-interest, hyper-critical constituency. They still do, but apparently, there are more obsessive, narrow-interest, hyper-critical individuals out there than I thought C or maybe something even more strange has happened, which is that watches have become appealing to (say it ain't so) people who don't have crippling neuroses. In any case, if you write about watches, nowadays you don't assume that everyone's seen everything. That means that sometimes you think about things you haven't thought about in a while and find that they're not only still interesting but also more interesting th...

This Week's Vintage Watches After debating Submariner vs. Submariner last week, the vintage team is back, picking three of our favorites from a new batch of 17 watches in the HODINKEE Shop. I have a sneaking suspicion that a large percentage of HODINKEE's readership appreciates a well-executed, limited-edition pair of sneakers. I certainly do. When I first started collecting watches in the early aughts, streetwear wasn't part of the conversation. But in 2022 that's changed entirely; the two worlds are closer than ever before. It's not an accident that we featured sneaker king Ronnie Fieg in HODINKEE Magazine back in 2018. A similar brand of enthusiasm exists in both worlds. We took some time to chat with LA-based Eric Peng Cheng, the co-owner of hot streetwear brands Bait and Undefeated to explore the intersection of streetwear and watches. Undefeat...

Yesterday, Omega announced a wave of new models in Miami, including the new Ultra Deep, two new color-packed Aqua Terra ranges, and a brand new generation of the Speedmaster '57. We have hands-on stories coming for all of that (and more) but I'd like to start with my favorite of the new releases: The Speedmaster Moonwatch Moonshine Gold.? The last time I was in Miami, back in the spring of 2019, Omega showed off the first Speedmaster made with its proprietary 18k yellow gold alloy, Moonshine Gold. It was a jaw-droppingly cool tribute to the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11. And, as Speedy fans will note, since then Omega has updated...

Ming watches C also known as Horloger Ming C has been around since the summer of 2017, when the company unveiled its first collection. That was the 17.01, which was a limited edition of 300 watches at $900 and between the terrific price/value ratio and the unusual design (classic in the basics but with a very post-modern look and feel in the particulars) got the attention of watch enthusiasts immediately. Since then the company's come a long way. It has branched out into a range of complications, including a moonphase and a world timer, and has also partnered with movement maker Schwarz-Etienne for its higher-end watches, like the ?Ming 20.11 Mosaic, which was priced at CHF 14,500. Ming has ...

Several months ago, I had the chance to wear my first ever fancy watch. My choices came down to a Cartier Tank and a Hublot Big Bang Tutti Frutti. I was tempted by the Tutti Frutti, but also repelled by it. I probably dont need to explain, but I will. The bezel is made up of pink baguette-cut sapphires, separated at intervals of six by Hublots signature titanium screws. It's like 48 hopeful fairy princesses playing ring-around-the-rosy with six princes who are all in bad moods. The strap is pink lizard, bolstered by pink rubber, Hublots signature, their pride and joy. Hublot is a watch company half of whose reason for being is rubb...

At HODINKEE, we're constantly striving to curate a wide assortment of watches that reflects the diversity within our community. And every Thursday morning we dedicate some time to highlight a few of the latest and greatest watches to land over in?HODINKEE Pre-Owned. Sometimes we've procured a few intriguing indies, while other times it might be all stainless steel sport watches as far as the eye can see.? The point is C?we never quite know what will be in stock by 11:00 AM ET, Thursday morning. New watches are added to the site daily, so we recommend you bookmark?HODINKEE Pre-Owned?in order to not miss any new additions. In the meantime, here are six watches that...

There's nothing quite like starting a story with a wildly broad generalization, but that's exactly what I intend to do, so here goes: The internet changed everything. It did C especially from a commerce perspective. Ever since modern-day Goliaths like Amazon and Apple changed the rules of e-commerce, the way we buy things has never been the same. Online shopping is everything now, whether it's the clothes we wear, the food we eat, or any number of luxury items we covet. We can have them delivered to our door with the simple click of a mouse or tap on our phones. When it comes to a pair of pants or groceries, I generally believe this revolution in purchasing to be...

Bremont made the news quite a bit over the last year, introducing a new in-house movement, and opening its new manufacturing facility C all in 2021. Well, it's a new year and you know what that means: New watches. The brand held what they called a Virtual Townhouse event this week to unveil a swath of new pieces across a variety of Bremont collections. In total, there are six new releases this year (well, technically seven), and they cover everything from diving to flying to racing. This is all to be expected from the brand which has really hung its hat on the toolish and adventurous side of watches. They are bringing grit and fu...

Louis Vuitton has spent the past two decades refining its vision of fine watchmaking in a way that highlights the high-end fashion house's famous creativity and craftsmanship. The Louis Vuitton High Watchmaking division has been largely defined over this period by two key events: the 2002 introduction of the drum-like Tambour case, and the 2011 acquisition of La Fabrique du Temps, a high-end horological concept shop helmed by talented watchmaking veterans Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini. Announced this week, the new Louis Vuitton Tambour Spin Time Air Quantum is a product of both the Tambour collection and the inventiveness of ...

Late last year, we started hearing a lot about a guy in California making cool watch videos on YouTube. We liked what we saw, and reached out to see if he'd be interested in doing watch reviews for our audience. He was, and here we are. Please welcome Brandon Menancio to the HODINKEE family. In this, his first Week On The Wrist video, he takes the GPHG Award-winning Grand Seiko SLGH005 "White Birch" for a spin around Los Angeles. How did he enjoy it? You'll have to hit play to find out C but let's just say there's a chance it becomes a permanent part of his collection. Brandon's watch journey began wh...

Years of SCUBA diving with mechanical watches on my wrist have revealed certain strengths and weaknesses in functional design that would otherwise remain hidden on terra firma. I've also learned that my aesthetic assessment of a dive watch often changes once I've had the chance to dive with it. The significance C and, in turn, the satisfaction C of specific design details can shift considerably at depth. After spending a few weeks with the Tudor Pelagos FXD, including a week SCUBA diving with it off the rustic Dutch island of Bonaire in the West Caribbean, my attitude shifted from a watch nerd's middling curiosity to a diver's fu...

Cartier has a history, going back one hundred and ten years this year, of making mystery clocks. The first Cartier mystery clock appeared in 1912, and it was called the Model A, which probably makes a lot of us think of a mass-produced automobile which you could have in any color as long as it was black. The Model A mystery clock, however, was about as far from the car that shares its name as you can imagine. An exercise in unabashed and unashamed luxury, produced just two years before the start of the First World War, the Model A had a transparent glass dial in which the hour and minute hands were suspended, and in which they turned apparently completely disconn...

Time travel exists. You just don't know it yet. Ryan Reynolds travels back in time and meets a younger version of Ryan Reynolds. That's the pitch someone made to the executives at Netflix C a pitch that became The Adam Project, a movie that hit the streaming platform literally today (yeah we're on top of it here on Watching Movies). The film centers around Reynolds' character, Adam, a fighter pilot from the future C 2050 to be precise C who needs to time travel back to the present day in order to save his wife, Laura (played by Zoe Salda?a). In the process, he just so happens to cross paths with his younger self ?(Walker Scobell) C a ...

Have you ever wondered what it's like to wear a dive watch rated to roughly 10 times the operational maximum depth of a Seawolf-Class submarine? Even if you haven't, Omega's got you covered.? Last week we introduced the brand's latest flagship dive watch, the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep C a production dive watch that's offered in steel or titanium, and that's rated for an unbelievable water-resistance of 6,000 meters (nearly 20,000 feet!). The specs and images left me with many questions. How does it really wear? Who did Omega make this watch for? Where does it stand in the marketplace for maxim...

It's the official start of New Watch Season as Omega kicked off its 2022 product releases in Miami last week. Nick and I were on-site to see and photograph the new pieces and I figured it would be fun to sit and chat over our feelings following our hands-on time with the new product. To round out the crew, I invited Danny to hop on the mics with us and it turned out to be a really fun Omega-centric conversation.? From the burly Ultra Deep to smaller Speedmasters, colorful Aqua Terras, and the endlessly fun Moonshine Speedmasters, we take a minute (or several) to discuss our favorite new releases from Omega, where they stand in the mark...

Nineteen twenty-two was a big year for the Cartier Tank C it was the year Cartier introduced the Tank Louis Cartier which has gone on to become the Tank most of us think about when we're thinking about a Tank at all. Since then, the different Tank models that have rolled out have been, as they say, legion C the Cintre, Basculante, the original Tank Normale, and many others have kept Cartier lovers happy for a hundred years and more. Twenty-two was also a year, however, when a less well-remembered Tank model came out. This was the Tank Chinoise. The Chinoise was part of a larger resurgence of interest in Europe in East Asian decorative arts, and the collective te...
